I Hate This New Style of Rattle Can Top

Has anyone had any "good luck" when spraying a rattle can with this style of "comfort grip" top??? I swear I have never had so much trouble when spray painting something as I have when using a can with this style of top. I think it is exclusive to Rustoleum but not sure.
Today I was painting some outlet covers for my brother-in-law, he supplied 2 cans of Rustoleum satin white paint+primer. After cleaning the old paint off of the covers and scuffing them up I was ready to paint. The 1st can dripped all down my fingers and hand, and made a mess but seemed to spray okay. The 2nd can spit and sputtered all over my nice work and now I have to wet sand some of the covers and start over. I cannot seem to find satin white paint+primer with a regular top, and this stuff is a waste of time. Ugh!!!! Wish there was a way to remove this top and swap it out with a regular one.
To Rustoleum, you make a good paint product but the new top style just sucks!!! Please change it back!!!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b5768d73ea.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5ef2073c6a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2f1f209a96.jpg

Lowes has Krylon at $3.98/can

I've not seen that one, but it looks like they an an attempt of form over function

I use them all the time with none of your issues.

The issue I have with them is after a while your fingers start to cramp up.

So, also not a fan.

Not a fan of those either.

Of all the spray brands Ive used over the years, I still havent found any better than the Dupli-color tip.

Is your time and paint worth it on electrical coverplates?

A white receptacle plate is 35 cents at home depot.

Is your brother-in-law so inept that he can't operate a rattle can of paint himself? Really?

After four or five of those cans in hammer finish plugged on either the first or second use I removed the top only to discover the stem won't accept a regular spray tip. I proceeded to drill the stem so I could use a regular spray tip but then discovered it wasn't the original nozzle which plugged, but the valve inside the can! Staring at the better part of fifty bucks worth of useless cans which were mostly full I went on to devise a way to deliver a spray paint glitter bomb to the president of rustoleum. Since I'm short on time I decided to simply never buy another can of their "Rust Paint" $hit. Any other brand suits me just fine now.

I’ve used them a couple of times. I don’t recall any issues.
I do find the “sprays upside down” nozzles annoying. They clog if you don’t clear them by blowing through them after you use them. They’re slippery and I need pliers to get them off. You have to be careful putting them back on that you don’t push too hard and spray paint through them again.

Use the trigger handle with a spray can. It will make a HUGE difference in the quality of your work.

For the upside-down marking paint, there is a longer handle with a trigger.

I second that statement. I'm cheap and like to refurbish things but, I'm not that cheap because I think it costs more and the end result isn't better.

I am not a fan of those spray cans either.

I’m using this exact paint and color and having issues as well. I have used other colors, like some of the metallics with no issues. The first can of satin white was just a little messy, but stopped spraying after just half was used. The second can seems to spray inconsistently and feels like it may run out prematurely.

Same experience here, they are crap. Stay away.

The metallics are good...never had a problem.

Fast Freddy 944 05-31-2021 08:14 AM

They do clog...

Por_sha911 05-31-2021 08:15 AM

Used the metallic spray of theirs 4-5 times without incident. Maybe just a bad batch?

I do have issue with the spray in any direction cans (of any brand) because it is too much hassle to clear the nozzle so I avoid them whenever possible.

He is fully capable of operating a rattle can, I was just painting the covers for him and he was focusing on other projects. This is a 6,400sqft house with lots of refurb going on and doing most of it themselves so I was just trying to help them out a bit.

Krylon is better and Valspar is the best, for sure.

I think Amazon liquidated (like that?) all of Rustoleum's original tip design cans recently. I bought about 10 cans of various colors when I did this mower and they were all about 4 bucks. Now no longer available through Prime, only high priced 3rd party sellers.

The house is 6,400sqft, was built in 1974, has 2 levels and a whole lot of outlet covers and switch covers. The covers have some detail to them and are almond in color. They wanted to keep them because they are original to the house and look nice and that is why we are painting them and I am also clear coating them as well.

To put in perspective, I have 75 of them from the main level of the house and that isn't even all of them and there is still the bottom level. That's a lot of covers that would add up if replacing all of them. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e7b30dcead.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...25f8f5408d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7ad3164025.jpg
