2007.5 Duramax Things to look out for?
Looking at a low mileage truck and wondering what are the things to look out for in this year of duramax.
Your thoughts? Edit: Two Duramax threads on the same evening... I guess this is the LMM engine with emission controls on it.

The internet search is your friend on this one but the short answer is that year is not desirable due to emissions equipment and they get poor fuel mileage compared to LBZ trucks and other versions.
The LBZ, ('06-'07), is considered the most desirable.

Is the lousy mileage due to the regen?
The duramax forums are tedious to read through. You guys otoh have your stick on the ice! I was looking at a Classic body from 2007 as well. Trouble is that it is an extended cab instead of the quad cab. Another low km truck.

Both the trucks are in amazing condition.
If the Classic were a 4 door I would be all over it. There was one classic 4 door listed a few months ago I was watching (for too long) for the price to drop. Listed at 45K canucklebucks and only 45K km on the truck. Truck market is completely ridiculous right now, new and used.

I have an 06, 4 door, 8' bed 4wd. Since I bought it, I put on 40k miles and haven't had any problem with the exception of one injector leak up in Calgary couple years ago. Tighten it by a diesel mech up there for a couple hundred bucks and it been running great ever since. It has 160,000 miles on it now. I also hear some not so good things about it due to smog items added to them. Can you remove them up there? I hear they are chocking those motor to death. Again, this is what I hear from talking to my mechanic.

I am not sure about the smog removal. I see much newer trucks advertised up here with modifications that have removed the def system and tuners and the like.
Reading some of the threads on the duramax forums makes me feel like sticking a pencil in my eye. Painful. I had some advice to check the operating hours. Some situations these trucks can sit and idle for long periods of time. Same person advised to install a lift pump to deliver the fuel from the tank at low pressure to the trucks fuel pump. Going to go back and have a look at it again today.

Don't know about the 08 and up. I don't think they have a lift pump and that's the one f the first thing I did when I bought the truck. you can even bypass the factory filter but I decided to keep it. That FASS system will circulate the diesel through its filter many times (I don't remember how many gallons per minutes) to keep it super clean. This way, the factory pump isn't working as hard.
Problem is that there are too many DIY in their garage and they read little and go and perform a half ass mod causing more harm then if it was left stock. They stock trucks can run up to many reliable miles or km up where you are. That Diesel form is just too much to read and everyone has an opinion so who do you believe. How about talking to your local Duramax mechanic? |

Well, I passed on the 2007.5.
He had someone at the front door with the full ask and he gave me a heads up. I think the seller really wanted me to have this truck. I told him he would be crazy not to take the cash at the front door and i didn't have my significant other on board with the purchase either.
