I suspect there may be age related posts here. I was officially "elderly" when the 911S left here. It was actually becoming painful to do what I used to enjoy as far as detailing, oil changes, other minor wrenching chores. So yeah, some "stop when it hurts" entered in.
It really was a combination of things...but they did boil down to making life simpler. And yes, more enjoyable overall. |

Stop when it hurts is a rational response. I'm too stubborn for that so far. I haven't gotten to the point of stopping when it hurts. I just get pissed off and plow through it anyway. I pay for it in many ways. That instinct your body has to react to pain, like you don't have to think about moving your hand off of a hot stove? It's my enemy. I drop tools when I get a pain signal and it just makes it harder because I have to go pick it up and start over. |
I sold the 71 911 when I ran out of simple projects and anything more would have started a ground up rebuild. With the $ bought a 04 Cayenne Turbo that has started everytime I turned the key and doesnt rust so technically not out of Porsche Ownership.
I sold the 930 when I had my 3rd going to college and couldn't justify tearing around in a 20k weekend fun car now worth over 100K. It became an asset I couldn't afford to wreck. To a smaller degree I had less in common with newer air cooled owners. Now I can't find any Porsche 911 project cars for anything reasonable and don't want to get into another showroom gem. I'm anxiously awaiting the crossover of my disposable assets increasing and modified air cooled prices decreasing. Or else I'll just buy an old Alfa and never have a shortage of projects |

you just said cayman. you can easily daily drive a cayman in the winter. |
I would only want a new one
and I certainly wouldnt ruin a cayman by driving it in the salt, no matter what i paid for it. you can do what you want also, my job requires me to be standing in front of a Judge at the exact time that he has told me to be there. there is no way in hell i would depend on a cayman to get me to that place on time during the winter....im just 30 minute east of Buffalo and would NEVER drive a rear wheel car here in the winter unless i was retired and had nowhere to be by a certain time. The last time I did, it was in my 1990 mustang. I was a dumb 18 year old at the time. I learned my lesson 30 years ago |

Slap some snow tires on that bad boy and let er rip! As for CP's comment, he's not "scared of" he's saying he needs to be somewhere at a certain time and a RWD in Buffalo snow isn't conducive to getting to that place on time. RWD's suck in snow no matter what tires you put on them when compared to a 4wd or AWD vehicle. |
Every time I've sold a 911, it was due to thinking I could get a similar/better experience elsewhere (usually for cheaper) and every time I was wrong.
I sold my 2005 C2S because I started driving my Evo X more. I sold my 993 C2S for a Boss Laguna Seca. I sold my '89 911 for a '67 Elan. I think I'm done horse trading for a while. |

Soi you can buy em new and it's all just chump change to you..
But scared of salt and traction.. ffs.. why is that even a discussion. None of that problem description has anything to do with the Sports car and brand passion.. Nobody here has ever gotten out of Porsche ownership for such a set of parameters, at least not that the dared to admit in public. There are a mirad of solutions for such winter problems to a man with the budget to buy new GTS4.0 or 911's.. Hell get a Cayenne .. Turbo or regular on the side.. with a set of snow tires if you want badge and and if you don't care bout the Porsche for that usage a ford F150 if you are so inclined.. or a Prius..or a Mach E Stang...Hell plenty of options ranging from cheap-affordable to expensive.. Whatever floats your boat. What 1st world problems to bring up salt or getting on time in slippery weather. It must be a hard knock life in Buffalo.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624550818.jpg |
I've always believed that if it's not fully paid for I'd be driving it 365 days a year!

getting to work on time is not a first world problem, especially when i need to be in a court room 200 miles from home by 9am in january. i don’t have the luxury of strolling into the office a few minutes late, or a second late
and i never said ide get out of porsche ownership due to salt. my 911 is still in the garage where it’s been for almost 15 years. just drove it today and have no plans to sell it, ever all i said was, if i lived somewhere with good year round weather- no snow, no salt, ide probably sell the old 911 and just get a new cayman as my one and only car instead of always having to deal with 2 cars. over the past almost 20 years i’ve kept either 2 cars and a motorcycle, or 2 cars and 2 motorcycles, or a car and a motorcycle and doing that starts to get tiring at 50. it would be nice to just have 1 amazing new/modern sports car that could do it all. anyone that lives around here knows that that idea is totally absurd unless you are retired or have few responsibilities…you don’t see people around here during the winter driving new 911s or caymans or corvettes or ferraris or mcclarens or lamborghinis for good reason and living near buffalo with the salt, yea it’s hard on cars. very. but not hard on me, though some palm trees would be nice but i’m not complaining. my GTi is all the car i really need and i’ve owned quite a few of them and they are fine in the snow so that’s what i daily drive and at 30 grand, i don’t feel bad about salt ruining it Quote:

I live in Arizona now, so can drive anything year round. I like to keep a truck, a sedan, and a fun car. Just what works for us. |
