so freaking YOUTUBE strikes again......

so im poking around and disassembled the bike (it was pretty bare boned so it isnt much of a feat, BUT i havent ever EVER done anything like that)

i took off the front and rear rims, the handle bars, master cylinder, brake line, calipers, etc etc etc..... just looking for stuff to do.

so i figure... eh... gonna paint the rims since its something easy and i think i can do it.

so i figure i need to sandblast or media blast the FILTHY oily, neglected front and rear rims... i mean they were toast..... after blasting i can prep, primer, paint.

i called around trying to find a shop to blast them, or if i knew anyone that had a home blaster..... no one i know does.

the shops were quoting me from $100 to $200 to blast both rims. (i paid a few hundred for the bike itself so THAT isnt happening)

soooooo YOUTUBE......

some freaking guy (i mean that awesomely) says wash with DAWN dish soap, them hit it with EASY-OFF oven cleaner and wash again....... perfectly clean and ready to scuff up and add primer and paint.....

WHAT? clean up for like $5 ?

i'm in! ill try.........

so now that they are all cleaned up.....

this weekend, if i can carve out some time im gonna scuff them up, tape them off, spray some primer, and shoot flat black paint......

You doing the "murder" paint scheme? Take your time, it will be awesome..

so there is a "Pep Boys" auto parts store around the corner from my house that is converting to a service ONLY center and they are closing down the parts showroom...... everything on the shelves are 40/50% off...... what?

Yeup, The Boys are going out of the parts business, the one in Mid Cities had is parts dept closed up tight, the one in Arlington started to get cool with hot rod and import tuner parts dept, but its slated for the chopping block. but fear not, ya gots auto zone..;)

Freddy..... yes sir..... i think thats what the term is... MURDERED OUT...... the frame is already flat black and kinda rough, perfect! gonna keep it like that. gonna paint the tank flat black and maybe a stripe of gloss black off to the side... not sure. handle bars gonna be black.

im trying to think of ideas for different parts to use around the bike....

for example...... at a swapmeet i found an OLD SCHOOL oil can spout that i am going to use/mount on the suicide lever shifter (its a auto so its just to change gears from low to neutral, no danger or suicide wishes)

You could use some early 356 bee hive tail light lenses for your turn, running, brake lights. Replicas available right here on Pelican for $26.50 a pop

I've been riding close to 30 years and professionally wrenching and fabricating on motorcycles for 25 years.

If the guy that fabricated and welded that rear fender support also stretched and converted the chassis to hard tail, I would not be interested in riding that bike.

If you choose to ride the bike, PLEASE inspect all the modified areas of the frame very regularly for cracks or damage. A major component failure on a motorcycle is no joke !

Yes sir. Good point. Already had my buddy (bike builder) check for integrity of the frame. I will continue to be cognizant of the modifications, I dont want problems at all.

For me its the learning experience and projects, NOT the bike. I may never even ride it. Who knows.

As I've mentioned, im leaving the serious stuff to the pros.....not me.

I saw a bobber where this guy brazed on brass knuckles for the pegs. Bit of a low life add on but they were the perfect size and actually looked pretty cool on this particular bike. I could imagine him sporting a German helmet
