http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624342993.jpg Soooo Ichiban on Youtube had an idea... the guy is hilarious, I wondered if it works or not.... sooooo I put together my own parts cleaner tonight.... tomorrow or Wednesday we see if the darn thing works... several guys swear by it.... let's see. I gonna try it on a few nuts and bolts and see if they come out clean using it as a ultrasonic cleaner If if it actually works... then im gonna try it as a media tumbler cleaner too.... Whats the worst that can happen eh? |

Just got curious to see... loosely mounted the freshly painted handlebars and tank.... looks ok I think.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624344620.jpg |
I dont beleive it ! hahahahaha!
https://photos.app.goo.gl/6KZk461NkMD1C5yo9
i dont believe it..... it worked !!!! WOW..... so i changed it up and and went for the media tumbler FIRST..... i went to the 99 cent store and picked up a container that came with a lid and YUP some cat litter for $1. set up the the pieces and ran it for about 20 minutes and WOW. i had a bag full of misc nuts and bolts that were beat up and dirty and grimy...... (bag came with the box o parts for the bike) i just wanted to test it out and see...... pieces all came out pretty clean and neat.... im shocked! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624402770.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624402770.jpg maybe tonight i am going to try the ULTRASONIC CLEANER...... i also picked up some CLR for $1 as the cleaning liquid. |

So I couldn't wait to see if the ultrasonic cleaner would work.... WOW... it did. These bad boys were a mess.... dirty grungy rusted and just in need of attention. I only ran the ultrasonic cleaner for about 20min... the velco did not hold up well and the vibration separated the sander from the lid.... gotta resolve that BUT 20min in and they got clean..... Im happily shocked! Ok now I know how to clean old dirty rusted stuff for about 2-3 dollars! Hahahaha |
|
Take the pad off the sander and use the screws through the lid to attack it directly. The thing might last 50 sessions or 100. You got nothing to lose.
But what about the noise? I think I like my real ultrasonic cleaner. |
ooh good idea!!
I'll do that tonight after work for sure.... sounds like that would do the trick......... THANKS Milt!!!!! the noise? i left the garage after turning it on.. so i'm not even REALLY sure it made any noise at all...... i didn't hear anything...... "........I think I like my real ultrasonic cleaner." im sure you do sir!..... Cost for a few clean parts and a "WOW that's cool" moment or 2.. $1 for Cat litter (parts came out smelling pretty good too hahaha) $1 for CLR Cleaning Solution $1 container media $1 container for ultrasonic cleaner (i had the sander, velcro, time) so for $4.... i like my super duper ultrasonic cleaner gizmo........ :) |
Thanks for posting this idea!
I think I have the perfect motor for making a cheap parts cleaner. It's the massaging 'vibrator' motor out of an easy chair. Should work well if I can get it safely wired up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624479076.JPG |
glad to have helped out a bit!
post some pictures once you're all set up! there is such a wealth of knowledge on this board... MOST guys are awesome here! we all get to reap the benefits......! |
Were all your parts cleaned with the bucket configuration you showed in your short video?
|
Scott.... yes.. the bolts and nuts and some other little stuff was in the video and it all cleaned up well... wasn't on very long..... i was planning on letting it run 1hr or 1.5hrs.... didn't last. only had it on for 20min i think.... i was SURE nothing happened but was thrilled to see them clean... im sure they would have been better had it run for an hour..........
|
My thinking is this: My 'motor' isn't very safe electrically as it didn't need to be since it was buried inside a big chair, unreachable by hands etc. If I got a big enough bucket I could attach the 'motor' to the inside with all the wires 'down' near the bottom and only have the cord end with the plug coming out. If I found buckets that would 'nest' within each other nicely I could change between cleaning media just by pulling the media bucket out and putting in another one with the media I wanted. Kind of a quick change wet or dry system.

99 cent store is your friend!
there are a million options there... your choice for your application. did i mention it would cost you .99 ? |
I use a vibrator to clean my dirty parts….:D
|
so another quick update....... Im REALLY REALLY happy how this small piece turned out... its EXACTLY what was in my head ending up on my workbench!
sooooooo i was a swapmeet several months back.... i saw a piece that reminded me of my childhood and my dads garage.. nothing fancy or exciting but a memory...... i thought to myself... man i wonder if i can somehow incorporate that into my bike build attempt. that would be/look cool. BUT i had no idea HOW i could/would do it........ the item was an OLD OIL SPOUT from back in the day when oil was sold out of an actual CAN..... well you had to get the oil out so you had to use one of these! well my swapmeet friend sold it to me for $1.00 ....... score! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624549625.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624549625.jpg so i kinda thought i could make it work SOMEHOW..... its been almost a year..... no ideas! then it hit me yesterday morning at work while i was doing some bank and account reconciliations..... here is the general look i wanted to do something with..... my bike is a CB750A..... so it has 2 speeds, no clutch. the guy had made a makeshift SUICIDE SHIFTER that i wanted to do something with..... then i got my oil spout for $1..... ok what now...? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624549959.jpg |
so i cleaned up the spout with some steel wool and it came out clean and shiny.... good enough, nothing else to do on it.

I LOVE IT..... industrial look to it.... captured EXACTLY what i had i mind but stupid luck..... took me about 2 hours to complete start to finish. $1 oil spout .50 clamps each leather was free smile is priceless i know it may not be everyone's taste.... i get it. |
oh ya..... ended up refurbishing the brake pedal and assembly too..... well i was in the garage and all......
