I have a customer that put a V8 in his 951 for track use.
With the money he spent he could have bought my 996TT.

Cost is certainly an issue and the only way to afford is do most/all the work myself . Not sure I still have the chops to do so. And at the moment it is just a conversation 😃

At this point and c5 prices where they are it seems like a silly car to do that too unless you are so in love with a 944 just buy a c5.

^^^ A very valid point .

So from this post, I gather there are no LS-1 conversions, hell if I had the monies, I would would do the conversion. That would be killer, doing burnouts and hauling tail..lol!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624030545.jpg

I have yet to see a engine swap of a V8 into a sports car that came with a 4 cylinder engine that looks right, and is reliable. Most aftermarket modifications are just not engineered properly.

One of my long time friends started modifying his Subaru WRX and kept spending money trying to make it reliable and fast. He admitted he could have bought a new 911 GT3 and for less money and had a car that was faster and better in every way.

Now he has a 718 GT4 and loves it.

There was a place in Dallas that put the LS-1 in the 944 platforms, sadly they closed down...

V8 swapped sports coupe execution

Glen this is my new track toy, it is very reliable with AC and cruise control. It has 400 wheel horsepower from an all aluminum Corvette LS1, large Wilwood front brakes, T56 six speed, Ford 8.8 IRS rear end, coilovers and a roll bar. My race seat and harness goes in next week. It just squats down and goes straight like a Bat out of hell when you stomp on the go pedal.

I spent a decent amount of time on the internet today researching a 944 conversion . I can see to do it right is going to be too much $$$ . I will continue to search for a 928 that maybe needs a little work . I just want to stay in the Porsche family ......... yeah it's a sickness 😁

I swapped a 928. Honestly was worth ever cent of the 15k I've dumped into the car. Lsx 376 with turbo, 5.3 chevy cam and turbo. Late teens and early 20's were a lot of fun with that car.

This is what I would recommend,

My C5's suspension is much better at putting the power down than my 944.
The 944 hops and skips.

If you want to swap a motor into your 944, look at the VW/AUDi 1.8T swaps.....

Nice looking RX there CMDR perry . Must be fun to drive . Did you build it ?

GG Allin 06-19-2021 06:07 AM

I did an LS swap in to an E36 M3. Same logic will apply here. Buy a nice one that's already been done. It will be much cheaper.

CMDR Perry 06-24-2021 07:32 PM

rfuerst911sc, sorry for the late reply to your question but I was in Arizona visiting family for a week. Yes the Rx Vetten is a blast to drive and sounds fantastic. I did not build it, a local engineer started building it back in 2008. I bought it 3 months ago but had been looking for an Mazda Fc V8 swap for a few years. He (Steve) did it like I would have if I had the time and his ability. I am fixing some minor issues and upgrading the coil-overs. Check out the No Rotors forum for more info on Mazda V8 engine swaps. The FD body with an LS V8 is very popular and can be fairly expensive.

Although it’s possible, I’m always leery of taking on someone’s project or something somebody else has built, such as an engine. Who knows what they did, ie MotorMeister
