Any professional chefs here? Anyone wear clogs all day?

Awhile back I started a thread about slip on work shoes and many were very happy with what looked mostly like cross trainers to me, plus some bordering on hiking boots.

Those are not work shoes. Clogs protect chefs from falling objects like knives. Nurses seem to like them as they are on their feet most of the day.

I see leather clogs and wouldn't know the difference between one vs the next.

With upcoming shoulder surgery, I won't be able to tie laces for 8 or so weeks. I wear deck shoes a lot when out but not steady on my feet. They aren't good for that. Like wearing Italian driving shoes to a construction site.

I'm thinking clogs. BTW, I absolutely abhor Crocs.

I stand in an Operating Room all day and I wear Dansko Clogs. Not pretty, kind of expensive, but very comfortable to be on my feet all day.

Good luck with the shoulder surgery

Dansko or Sanita.

they dont look completely goofy with decent jeans. the super power of them? you simply step into them. no bending over to stick your thumb or shoehorn into the heel cup to force them up and over. you just kick them upright, make sure right goes to right, left goes to left..and step in.

if i had to pick a negative. they are the most ankle twisting shoes on the planet. (dont know anything about Stilletos...okay man-like shoes only, debatable if clogs are man-like) they make a pair with softer wider, more off road friendly soles.

A lot of the nurses wear them in the hospital.

I've been wearing the Olukai Moku Pae boat shoes for awhile. Very comfortable, a slip on boat shoe and has a drop heel to function as a slide/clog...

Memory foam for the win! These things are super light - like walking on air - slip ons - and very cost effective!

Skechers Men's Equalizer Double Play Slip-On Loafer

I wear a pair for my landscape work - but also have a pair for wearing elsewhere!

No protection! I have mesh (pool or boat launch) shoes for hosing down, etc.

PorscheGal and others: Which Dansko? There are dozens to choose from. I think I'd like leather even though I know I'll pay for it. I like to wear socks just about all the time.

@vash, that is a concern. I have both Thorogood and Wolverine boots and I'm throwing the Wolverines out before I do sprain my ankle. Like Craigster59 has said many times, Thorogood boots are hard to beat for a $140 price point.

Another question, I think a heel back looks better than a strictly slide in. I have some slide-in non-flip flop (full loop) sandals and I'm always backing out of them and have to scuff them back forward.

Other than Crocs, I can't stand flip flops. The nothing shoe. Does nothing for anyone with them on except flop when they walk. I hate that. I'm hoping clogs go where you want to go w/o thinking about it.

Heel counter moves which let's you slip in and out easily. Consider elastic laces and a long shoe horn..

Also, spring for the gel cold pack thing intended for shoulders

I've had Danskos, and I didn't care for them. Maybe I just don't have Dansko feet. My toes would always slide forward and get scrunched up in them. If you look of their site, I had the "Professional" model.

Is that the one that looks like an Igloo cooler or is it the one you put in the freezer that Velcros around the shouler?

Also Milt, you may want to give Crocs a second try. I've never been a fan but bought some of their Camo "offroad" clogs to wear around camp when fishing. Got so used to them I wear them around the house, who cares if I look like a dork.

(MS Bing search links result in becoming about two pages of xxxxxx%20xxxxx%20xxxxxx javascript long, or else I would directly link the source page)

I wear these moose hide slippers around the house. Inside and out. Summer and winter:
They last a decade or more even for my heavy ass.

But in the kitchen?
No clogs or slippers. No way.

The gel pad you put in the freezer that has velcro straps, pricey but worth it

My sister is the charge nurse at Kerk Medical center. Jsut about her whole team of nurses are on Crocs. They swear by them. My 83 year old mother is also a convert for a few years now. Walks 1/2 miles twice daily on them or her New Balance running shoe. My younger boy had always had a pair since he was about 5. He still looks for them whenever we go out. Wore them to build my deck too but I made him changed them out to his tennis shoes.

For the shoulder, my brother loved that thing, talk to your surgeon, on a joint replacement you might not want to get it that cold. You don't want an ice cream headache in your shoulder

I agree with Baz, Skechers for the comfort. You got to check out their Max Cushioning line, they got one in a slip-on too. (I find them more comfortable & more cushioning than New Balance's Fresh Foam line)...Yup, they may be ugly & have thick soles but they are definitely comfortable. They've got a bunch of slip ons to choose from on their website. Look for their Relaxed Fit if you want a looser fit than 'D' but not exactly Wide. Skechers been stepping up their shoe game...or maybe I'm just getting older and looking for more comfort than style.
