New car market is smoking the good stuff too.

Been looking for a Rav4 Prime for my wife. Found one in Hayward that fit the bill, MSRP on the website says $47,279 so I email asking what the out the door price is and I get a response of $63,779 after "market adjustment"?!?!?

Took all my effort to just respond "thanks, but no thanks" and not say what I actually wanted to.

I have a 2001 Tacoma extended cab 4 cyl, auto with 44K miles I’m considering unloading. Been watching Market closely, thinking the time may be right. Hard to predict precisely. Tim

That was what I had found on a lot of manufacturers sites. MSRP listed in the front and the actual price when you open the details. Crazy.

You’ll ring a bell. Those trucks were doing well with low mileage even before the current market hit. Get it listed!

Thanks guy for the reassurance. I’m going to fix the one issue that needs addressed (Heater core 🥴🥴🥴😵*💫😵*💫😵*&#128171 and get it posted up. If it doesn’t sell high I’ll just keep driving it! 🤣

Mannheim used car index starting to roll over.

Like lumber, copper, you name it, have rolled over.

Exception is oil.

Oil is coming off a year when they were giving it away. I wouldn't expect to see it roll over. Going back to 2018.

Lumber 500 and peaked at 1500 in 2021
Your chart on used cars from 5 to 55 peak
Copper from 3 to 4.70 peak
Crude 75 (2018) 60 (2019) to 72 today.

Should've emailed back a pic of a crack pipe, and nothing else.

Just had a job change. Went from company vehicle to having to buy my own vehicle. Started looking about a 6 weeks ago. Started looking at GMC 1500 SLT 4WD. Began looking at 2018 under 60K miles. Prices ranged from 37 to 39. I would find a truck one week at a certain price. Would go back the following week and that same truck had increased by 2500 to 3000. A week later another increase in price. Came to the conclusion if I find something that fits better buy it. Settled in a 2016 model with 29K miles, still smelled new on the inside and just had $1500 in new tires installed. Paid 42K for it. The entire process I knew I was getting screwed but I was up against the wall and needed a vehicle. Got an offer from the dealer last week for $43k . I have always enjoyed the hunt and getting a new set of wheels, but this time I hated every moment .

'00 to '04 Tacomas will always be in demand, especially your low mileage example... that's a BaT truck for highest sale price. I bought an '01 4x4 5 speed for my dentist in exchange for some work done in my mouth and spruced it up a little for him. He gets asked if he wants to sell all the time. I bought it for $8K 2 years ago and put $2K into it, I think he could sell it for $15K+ today.

I agree. The manual, 4x4 6 cylinder especially. I have always loved the first gen tacos. I bought this one about a year ago for a work truck. It’s almost too clean and low miles for a work truck. Also I need to tow on occasion more than it can handle. After I put the first scratch on it I decided to buy a new Ranger. I paid 14K for taco. I put brakes, shocks and new windshield. In this market, it might be up to 20K.

Update to this thread. Finally got it listed this week. Between bad weather here and travel I couldn’t get it cleaned up as quick as I had wanted. Priced it at the top of the market, we’ll see what happens.

I went and test drove a new ranger, I think that’s what I’ll get if this sells. Nice size small truck with more cab space and power than a Tacoma.

^^^ that works. Also kinda looking at the new..or used new Ranger.
It's hard to find a used one around here. (and I'm sure the price will be about the same as a new one)

Times are crazy. I sold my 2006 Ram 2500 diesel back in 2014 with about the same mileage for $25,000. Granted it probably wasn’t in as good a shape as this one.

I got more for my 2017 Jeep that I recently traded also.

Good luck.

There’s almost none on the used market. I’d prefer to buy used private party and save the sales tax, but I haven’t seen one.

The dealer near me has 3 CPO trucks with around 10k miles but they want basically new prices for all of them. They didn’t seem willing to deal on the race red one I drove either, even though it’s been on their lot since February.

Weird, I got a PM on the Bullitt Mustang board from somebody asking if I wanted to sell my '09?

Didn't advertise it for sale..Sounded like a flipper to me...claiming to be an enthusiast, but one who only "lurks" on the website...4 posts made.

Used car dealers are getting desperate for inventory at a deal. I think they are getting creative in trying to find cars that aren’t already being marketed.
