Kids, building things, and hot dogs....

We're domed... DOMED I tells ya! Watching a hot dog being "manufactored" as I was paying at the counter of a gas station/country store. Cute teenager was preparing it ... hot dog in bun, chili on top of the dog, then mustard on the very top of it all... and WAY too much mustard.... poor thing

At least she was cute.... so mebbe there is hope for her yet .... couldn't have been more than 16.

I just chuckled to myself .... but that is just SO wrong!

I don't get mustard with chili anyway. I love chili, I love mustard, I wouldn't put mustard AND chili on a hot dog.

Absolutely. Mustard goes on the bun (before or after the dog, either is fine).

Probably she was making it the way the customer asked for it to be.

She may have been so cute he couldn't quite remember what he wanted.

lots of crazy talk about mustard above

here's one i had not long ago...only missing the onions which are usually present

Chili sauce is always Matty Matheson's recipe

Ľ cup|60 ml grapeseed oil
1 pound|454 grams ground beef
˝ cup diced sweet banana peppers
10 garlic cloves, minced
3 ribs celery, diced
1 yellow onion, diced
3 tablespoons cayenne pepper
3 tablespoons smoked paprika
3 tablespoons sweet paprika
1 (6 ounce|170 gram) can tomato paste
kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Directions
Make the chili: In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high. Add the beef and cook, stirring, until browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the banana peppers, garlic, celery, and onion and cook until soft, 7 to 8 minutes.
Add the cayenne and smoked and sweet paprika and cook, stirring, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook 2 minutes longer.
Add 3 cups|750 ml water to cover and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to maintain a simmer and cook for 45 minutes, until thick. Season with salt and pepper.
To serve, cook the hot dog over the flame that the chili was cooked over until charred all over, 3 to 5 minutes. Place hot dog in buns, top with chili, banana peppers, onion, and mustard and get into it.

Chili sauce
I found your problem, right there.

not "Chili Sauce"
"Chili", thick, meaty, chili.

hot dog culture is a very big deal around these parts btw….like it or not, when you ask for hot sauce here, you get a chili meat sauce. that’s how it’s done. down state can brag about pizza and bagels. up here near buffalo/rochester/syracuse…it’s hot dogs. especially white hot dogs which most of you never heard of

as far as i’m concerned though, there no rules when it comes to hot dogs so long as it has tons of mustard on it and no ketchup.

Domed? It must have a Hemi. Or a Porsche engine. Or a Honda. Or..

The culinary autistics reveal themselves here.
No ketchup! 'cept for moi.
(btw that yellow stuff is not real mustard)

KC's hot dog rules:

1) Open bun
2) Add mustard OR weenie
3) Add the one left over from step #2
4) Add chile (no sauce)
5) Add slaw
6) Onions on top

Those are the rules!

But that's a good lookin' dawg even if it's not made right

Okey dokey....

A dawg with just mustard and relish (lots of it) does not suck!

Rules are made to be broken

But the mustard doesn't go on top of the relish!

Common hot dog sausage ingredients include: Meat trimmings and fat, e.g. mechanically separated meat, pink slime, meat slurry. Flavorings, such as salt, garlic, and paprika. Preservatives (cure) – typically sodium erythorbate and sodium nitrite.
