Another tragic loss of innocent life

Quote:
A homeowner in Fairfield, California, fatally shot an intruder who kicked down the home’s front door, a report said.

Fox 40, citing police, reported that the couple who lives in the home, which is in the vicinity of Napa, was eating breakfast when the individual knocked on the door. The report said they did not respond, which resulted in the door being kicked in.

The homeowner, who was not identified, fired off two shots and struck the intruder, who was 27.

When will we have an end to the senseless killing of innocent violent criminals?

Another happy ending!

Quote:
The intruder, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, was forced to call 911 for assistance. First responders were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.

Police said they recovered a loaded "semi-automatic handgun," with an extended magazine.
I added the emphasis. "extended magazine?" How is that possible? Those are illegal in Cali!

Nice, the intruder had to call 911.
"Help, you shot me. Call 911, please."
"Nah, we're going to finish eating breakfast before it gets cold."
"Oh, OK, I'll call them myself."

There was a case in Oklahoma City area yesterday that some idiot criminal went into a pot shop armed with a knife and broke a few display cases, and threatened the employee. The store employee responded with a gun.

The clerk will not face charges but the dumb ass armed robber will, if he recovers.

That's awesome, nurse him back to health so he can be tried and convicted.

homeowner with gun at the ready

Our family has always had "guns at the ready".

We tend to be self-reliant when it comes to stuff like protecting our loved ones.

From the article:

Quote:
The homeowner obtained his legally owned firearm and in fear for his and his wife's safety fired 2 shots at the suspect.

The suspect was on parole for home invasion.

Suspect was in possession of a semi automatic weapon with an extended magazine.

This is all good ...

but someone just across the bay, in SF if I recall, got in trouble with the authorities and the local media, for using, just brandishing not actually firing a shot mind you, a gun to drive away an aggressor.

Brandishing is generally bad/frowned upon.

If you are in a situation where you think someone is about to kill/hurt you, and you pull your gun, and the bad guy sees your gun and runs away, that's great. BUT In that case, you should probably call the police and tell them something, "this guy was going to kill me, but I pulled my gun to shoot him and when I saw him run away, I put it up."

Because if the guy that you just chased off with your gun calls the police and says "I was talking to this dude and he drew his gun like he was going to shoot me. I was afraid he was going to kill me so I ran away." that's probably going to work out poorly for you or at the very least, be a huge pain in the rear.

You don't want to be part of a he said / someone else said argument about pulling a gun.

Brandishing might be the wrong word. I believe he simply showed the perp that he was packing and hence possibly averted a tragic incident ... but not the local media brouhaha.

+1

pmax: Just revealing a hidden weapon to threaten ('avert a tragic incident') is considered brandishing and illegal in most cases. That is why masraum is right when he said call 911 immediately.

Don't be deceived. YOU are the first responder. In many cases, all the police can do for you is draw chalk lines around your body.
