Watkins Glen-my home track and have 20k miles racked up there
Spa-first F1 spectating experience, but Glen-like in it's vibe at the time Mid-Ohio-got my Comp License there and first race Mt Tremblant- always an epic adventure Mosport-not been for a long time, but loved the rustic grass roots feel. |
Ontario Motor Speedway had a road course. It was 19 turns in all using part of the front oval. The big track was squared off like Indy. so it wasn't a long sweep down the front. Two of the technical sections resembled each other with different lengths between turns.
In a hour long kart race I got pretty tired towards the end and forgot which of the segments I was on. I hit the brakes about 2/3rds down this short straight thinking I was on the other shorter segment. Must have surprised anyone around me. This was in '73 so I don't remember much except that bonehead mistake, which I doubt I'll ever forget. In fact, I remember "offs" more than high place finishes. An off at big Willow at high speed in a kart isn't something you'll forget easily. There are rocks out there in the infield and deep divots at the turns where cars are constantly putting a wheel off. They don't seem to ever bothering filling them. |
The Nurburgring Nordschleife where I saw Elford and Siffert win the 1968 1000K in an 908 and Stewart win the 1968 Formula One in a Matra. The 1000K was fun cause the length of the race meant I could move around and see lots of the track. Stewart has said that he considers that race his best drive.
Yes I’m an old fart. |
I have a different perspective of race tracks than most of you. I can't remember the last time I was a spectator at the race track and I have almost no on track experience. But I do spend a lot of time at the track. My favorite would have to be Laguna Seca, my home track. With Streets of Long Beach a close second.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1626121703.JPG

having only driven tracks in the mid west, my favorites are blackhawk and BIR. autobahn south is great too. BIR makes for great races, Blackhawk is just a fun time to drive.
road america is kinda a snoozefest. nice place to hang out, not super interesting to drive. |
Ron is my favorite starter at Laguna Seca. :)
As a driver it really helped between sessions to meet and talk with Ron the starter during his short break. Quote:

At Le Circuit Mont Tremblant today . . . looks like we will have a mix of dry and wet weather. Life is good.

Mid Ohio where we watch the Vintage races. I have been around it a few time s "parade" laps in my Datsun 280Z, and would love to stretch it's legs a bit.

Just to be ornery - my least favorite track is Atlanta Motorsports Park. It might be a fun track for a DE, but I don't like racing there for sure. Part of my dislike might be the very large hit I took on the front straight back in 2014...
|
My two favorite tracks are:
1. Lime Rock Park - first track I ever drove on, still my favorite. It is short and technical, so the faster hp cars can't run away from you as much! Everytime I drive there, I learn something new. 2. The next track I am about to visit is always my second favorite track. Currently, that would be Summit Point, Main circuit, followed by Watkins Glen, and Lightning and VIR if this season goes as planned... Tracks on my bucket list include: 1. The Ring 2. Laguna Seca 3. Road Atlanta |

My 3.9 mile private race track is @ Bajamar KM 77 Ensenada Baja California Norte.
I hold the track record. See it on google earth Stamped concrete roadway surface resembles Targa Florio cobblestones of old and makes for minimal mechanical grip. |
I drove my 512BBi and what was the Testarossa mule around Fiorano. I had just turned 21. Great memory

If I go and spectate I will look you up. :) |
Road Atlanta, before they put the chicane in the back straight, because it was the first track I ever drove. When I graduated from high school in 1993, my present to myself was a BMW CCA drivers’ school in the 320iS that belonged to our dad that my sister and I drove to school. With 100hp it was slow, which was good for me at that time, but a lot of fun. Learned the hard way about tire condition (I wasn’t responsible for maintenance on the car) when I blew a tire in the esses. That got my attention.

Were you at the Rolex Reunion this year? That car looks familiar.
