Anyone know anything about Honeywell Lyric alarm systems?
The stepdaughter just moved into a house that was previously a rental and then flipped, and it has a Honeywell Lyric alarm system. Nobody knows anything about it, the default user code and installer codes don't work. A local alarm system says they'll get it going for $400 + $40 / month for monitoring.
On Amazon a new panel is $250, sold by AlarmGrid, and they monitor starting at $10/month. Anyone know of a way to recover the installer code? Looks like there's a 4 pin connector on the bottom of it, maybe a programming interface? Or should she chuck it and put something else in? Several of the sensors aren't working, but they might just have dead batteries. She also wants to install a Ring doorbell, so maybe get something else that integrates with the ring? |

I would pull it out and buy a DSC box. Look on Craigslist, I've found them for $40 before.
All kinds of info available online, and easy (ish) to program. A very loud alarm system doesn't need to be monitored (at least not where I live).

If she really wants to go with ring, they have cameras, smoke detectors and window/door sensors that all work together.
If she doesn't need/want ring, there are cheaper/newer systems that will send text messages to multiple phones, imho more useful than commercial monitoring.

Simplisafe? Our house had one at one point in time, everything is there, but is now disconnected. I have not removed the panel, sensors, wiring ect..
Edit: Nevermind, wiring is still there, somewhere, but the sensors went with the windows when we replaced them earlier this year.

Ring has alarm systems too. They integrate the alarm and video cameras and doorbells seamlessly. They make a bridge that would replace the lyric system and utilize the existing wired sensors. I think that would be your best bet, and the monitoring is only $100/year including the cameras
Ring Retrofit Alarm Kit - existing wired security system and Ring Alarm required, professional installation recommended https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y926SS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RA657N1VK9T1E72TXT13 |

Before you buy anything do your homework. I was going to pay $$$$ to get a new system, because I can’t find the installer’s code either (and I had the system installed!) but I found a much better option that converted my existing 20 year old alarm system to one that can be armed/disarmed via a smart phone AND will text/email you when the alarm goes off, this is all for the price of the module, no monthly fee.
OR the company, for a fee can monitor for you. This is from a thread I started on PPOT a couple of years ago. . . I’ve been using an older DSC home security system for 15 years. Everything still works as well as the day it was installed, but I wanted the ability to monitor/arm/disarm my system remotely like the newer systems can. I found a company from Canada that makes a $100 electronic board which upgrades the DSC (and certain Honeywell systems based on the DSC platform) to modern home automation standards. I have no relationship with this company other than I bought and love the product. It basically is an extra keypad that is connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable. You have to register for a free monitoring account (upgraded accounts with more features are available for a monthly fee). Installation was as easy as turning eight screws (four wires) and plugging the Ethernet cable in. Features now available to me are -Remote Arm/Disarm -Email/Text notifications of Alarm events Arming/Disarming Internet/Telephone faults -Open/closed zones are visible via the smartphone app -If you have motion sensors, the app will tell you which are being triggered even if the system is disarmed. Meaning if I walk from the front of my house to the back I can see my activity via the app. -The system/app also has the ability to control remote cameras and HVAC systems (haven’t done this yet). Maybe even smoke alarms as well -For a fee they will monitor your system and call first responders. . . . I’m sure there are more features available I’m not aware of yet. Here is the web site, the company has been around for at least 10 years. https://www.eyezon.com/ Again I’m not affiliated with the company, just extremely pleased I was able to breathe 21st Century technology to my older security system. __________________
