THIS is maddening!

My wallet seems to have simply vaporized. I had it yesterday and today it is not to be found  I didn't go anywhere last night or today so it's quite a puzzle.

Credit and bank cards dealt with. Drivers license temp in hand and replacement ordered. Healtn ins card requested and there was no more than $25 in cash. But still ... it's maddening to not know where the heck it is.

Bet you find it right after you replace everything. Good luck.

Retrace your steps. If you have a routine and something had you out of your routine, it is easy to misplace something.

Go to bed at night thinking about where you may have left your wallet. Your brain does some background processing and by the morning you may think "Ah, ha..."

If that doesn't work look in stupid places like the fridge, bathroom cabinet etc.

Bob Kontak 03-20-2025 04:03 AM

+1 on stupid places.

Wear a jacket (wallet in pocket) in the morning and hang it on a stool in the garage in the afternoon?

Far side of the car seat where it fell off against the door. Between the seats and center counsel.

Parts store, grocery, Home Depot?. Most folks are honest.

Fridge, cupboards, kitchen drawers? Change your pants? Thats too easy. Medicine cabinet, linnen closet, behind toilet? Enter any seldom used rooms?

I have attention deficit big time and it took until I was 50 to get a simple system down. Money clip with a two card pouches - front pocket only or jacket pocket. Keys on a breakaway lanyard around neck. Carry phone or in jacket pocket. Glasses in t-shirt neck. Edit: If I got a small IPhone it could fit in front pockets of my dad jeans. It's a monstrous phone.

It is such a pain to get a new card and then I have about five ways to electronically pay and most are connected to a debit card number. I wait for days before cutting stuff off - maybe foolishly but I know the odds.

flatbutt 03-20-2025 04:37 AM

Thanks guys I have done all of the above. The only place I went to is the local laundromat. I went there and no one copped to finding a wallet. I was on duty Tuesday so I checked the squad house and ambulance.

Other than that I was mostly home. So weird.

I ordered a new DL and medical insurance card. My credit card is frozen and debit card cancelled. What is driving me batty is I can't recall what else I may have had in there. I suppose if I can't remember it then it isn't important.

I wonder what damage can be done by someone with my DL and credit card?

Should I freeze my credit? Report the loss to the police?

Do you all think I should file a report with PD that my license was lost?

If I were you I'd give it one more day of looking.

Under the couch, under the car seat (seats), wife may have been helpful and put it in her handbag, floor in the garage, glove box of the car you almost never drive...

stevej37 03-20-2025 11:05 AM

I just went through the same with my wallet. I had carried my jeans to and from the car when I had worn shorts because of marginal weather. After looking for an hour, I found it on the floor of the car. It had slid out of the pocket when I took the jeans out.
Black wallet on black carpeting....almost impossible to see.

Did you check the fridge?
A couple of weeks ago I put the milk in the cupboard.

Last week, my granddaughter spotted a structure across the river from our place. So Sunday, we launched our little boat and went to take a look.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1743707163.jpg

As near as I can tell, the thing is a culvert. About 30 feet long, 6 feet wide and three feet high. Where the heck it washed out from, I can't guess. The Annapolis River is only about 60 miles long and isn't that big. Because of the causeway maintaining water levels between Annapolis Royal and Bridgetown, it is rather like a lake here, as you can see from the pic. Construction seems to be 60s or 70s, judging from the materials.
One of life's mysteries.

Nah, I wouldn't think so. If someone "finds" your DL, they'll probably either trash it or return it (unlikely). It'd be hard for anyone to pass as you, I suspect. That'd be like a regular Joe trying to pass as James Bond.

So that floated or was driven by current there from somewhere else? Is that what you're saying?

Interesting. Any heavy rain, crazy water events recently?

oldE 04-03-2025 03:15 PM

Well, the ice went out of the river a week or so ago. Spring run off raises the water level. You also have to understand the river is semi tidal above the causeway at Annapolis Royal. When it was built in 1960 to keep out the tides so the dike structures no longer had to be maintained, the river level was pretty much static. While the tidal power turbine was in operation from '84 to 2019, the water level went up and down 3 feet twice each day. (Tides in this part of the bay range from 18 to 32 feet.) Because this created a semi tidal estuarine system, the practice continued even after the turbine ceased operation. That was a long winded was of saying, yes we do have "crazy water events".

One year ago last month, my next door neighbor went to the Dr with back pain. A number of tests later, the diagnosis was cancer. He was in and out of care through the fall, home for Christmas then back in to palliative care in January. I wasn't able to see him the last time I dropped in to the health center, but the time before we were acknowledging this wasn't turning out the way we had hoped and in effect, said "Goodbye "
He died yesterday morning with family by his side.
I know it sounds odd, but it was almost a relief.
Wayne, my friend, I'm glad you aren't in pain anymore.
I'll miss our talks.

My condolences to you and Wayne's family. As you said, he is no longer in pain.
