Franklin's BBQ

my friend ordered some and had it delivered to his home. naturally, i showed up at lunch time unannounced.

have you had it? it might be the softest, most tender piece of brisket ever. not so sure that is a good thing. like you can chop it up by using chopsticks. teeth? not needed. leave them on the night stand.

the flavor was awesome. the bbq sauce, was great. have you had it? i would love to try it in Texas.

the guy ordered a brisket from Snow's and he said it was better. i was, "wait, why didnt you call me?" again, Texas

ordering online for food fast shipped across the country is expensive. the packaging is damn near NASA level, and you get to play with dry ice upon delivery. expensive. but my buddy loves it. i ship stuff to my mom (Portos - she loves Portos), because "mom". and her guilt kung-fu is still black belt.

Customer sent me a Franklin's gift box a few years ago. It was amazing!

Great brisket !! When I'm in Austin for the F1 race its a must do for the family, we waited in line once a fun time but don't need to do it again, we order online now and get it to go.

I'm sure there are Texans here that have tried more and could name some place better, but Franklin's brisket is the best that i've tried on my trips to texas.
The wait really isn't that bad... show up real early with some friends and a cooler of drinks and make a day of it...

Franklins is good.

But in Texass you kinda gotta work to find bad BBQ.

Franklin shares all the secrets to making that brisket on YouTube. I’ve been meaning to cook one, but I always end up picking up Rudy’s when we want brisket. 🤣

We have a local BBQ place that makes brisket the right way. No knife needed, just a fork. For lunch I get the sliced brisket sandwich and it is so tender it is perfect.

When I went to Charlotte, NC some of the guys here on Pelican suggested a BBQ place that was supposed to be great. Literally, no exaggeration, I had to use my pocket knife to cut that shoe leather tough sliced brisket. Plastic knifes were pointless. It was pitiful for BBQ. It must have been the toughest old bull ever to be that tough. My jaw was tired after half the sandwich so I gave up.

Don’t kid yourself, there’s plenty of bad BBQ in Texas.

You’re SOL, I sold my smoker when I moved. Getting too old to barbecue at this point, it’s just too much damn work to do it right.

Last year, I was down near Burleson, picking up something or other that I bought. Asked a local where the best barbecue was in that area and he directed me to Roscoes, if I remember right. ****ing hideous.

Sometime later, I found myself in Dallas near the hospital district. It was lunchtime, so I stopped at Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse on Inwood, just north of Harry Hines. Horrible...

So, I am 0 for 2 lately. Someday I’ll try Terry Black’s, I’ve heard it’s decent. Cattleack is also on my list. If neither of those pans out, I’ll give up.

Keep in mind I am no fan of brisket, that crap belongs on a taco. Pork ribs are where it’s at. NO DRY RUBS, either.

Bailey's by the courthouse in Downtown Fort Worth is awesome.

Rudy’s is damn fine for a chain. They let you buy just the dry side, less fat and it’s cheaper!

Their smoked beans kick ass too.

red-beard 07-21-2021 08:10 PM

You can have the dry side...

Aaron Franklin seems like such a cool nice guy.

I won't go back to Ironworks down by the convention center. I do like Salt Lick down in Driftwood better than the rest.

Yep, that’s the worst part of the brisket, which already sucks next to any of the porcine offerings.

I thought Hutchins BBQ in Frisco was pretty good.

Some friends took me to Lockhart Smokehouse in Plano - wasn't so impressed with them.
