Government paying people to stay home.

Today in riverside county I saw a help wanted sign at a Jack in the box. Said $15 to start. The government is fast food’s biggest competition! Why should people work when they get paid to stay home.

Same with Oklahoma. $1200 for the 1st 20,000 that signed up and worked for at least 6 weeks at 32 hours or more.

3.7% unemployment.

I saw a Panda Express with 17.50 per hour. That will be passed on to us consumers. If they pay the lowly cashiers over 17 buck then the cooks will btich and want 20-22, then management will ask for 28-30. It will just keep going and it will now come back down.

I think a lot of workers at that level got real exposure to wide swaths of the public just walking out of the office and working from home for the last year.

They are changing jobs and not going back to fast food or restaurant work.

I'm with Fred. I'm rethinking my career choice. This could be me in short order...

I see signs everywhere around Austin Texas for $15/hr.

Do I HAVE to make a collegiate attempt at getting your order correct, or can I just screw people over like normal that are killing the planet by sitting in running vehicles in the long lines at the drive thru because the lobbies are all closed?

Soon a $12 Big Mac. People will just stop going. Learn to cook at home again. Feeding two adults and two teens now could cost $60 at McDonald’s. Think what it will cost in two years.

Maybe this is what we need? Do people even still go to McDonalds?

Cooking at home is far better than putting that poison in your body.

Lots of people go to McDs still. And Im sure payroll costs will ultimately be passed to the consumer. But not before the quality gets even worse, and the size gets even smaller to try and keep the price down. A Big Mac is pretty much three slices of bun with a lot of sauce and a few thin disks of "meat" thrown haphazard to one side of the bread. Pretty sad. (But I still get the crave every now and then)

The horror!
Are 21st Century Americans capable of learning to feed themselves?

You would be surprised. Door dash and other fast food delivery options are very very very popular. Not only are you too lazy to cook, but too lazy to pick up the to go!

Don't all fast food places now accept EBT? I bet Door Dash and Uber Eats will take EBT soon too.

Up until the mid 70’s employee wages rose at a rate commensurate with productivity.

That ended with trickle down and wages flat lined. ~10% increase over 50 years. C level pay has increased ~1,100% during the same period.

Employees as a metric of COGs / ROI have not contributed to increased costs.

If wages had continued to track with production the Fed minimum wage would be $22.00 today.

Interpret that however you want.

It’s not opinion, simple facts

Add in increased rent as a result of increased taxes.
Mandatory hirees slacking who couldn't give hoot either way cause bennies pay the same.
Then, that Panda Express outlet eventually goes poof goodbye for good.
Like the restaurant next door.
And the next.

Mr Bezos is set to become even more wealthy in the short term.
