This documentary covers the 911 manufacturing process
Got some time to kill? 911 fan? Ever been curious about the manufacturing process? This detailed documentary below goes over every single aspect of how the current-generation 911 is made. The video does touch on how every two-door performance Porsche car takes a trip on the same assembly line, which includes the Boxster and Cayman. The factory builds about 250 cars per day if all goes according to plan.

Back when they had to drop the 901 name they had ordered a lot of the numbers Nine Zero and One. They just threw all the zeros in the trash and ordered a lot more ones and kept on making cars.

Yep. It's sort of hypnotic and relaxing to watch some of their top level production staff, hand assemble limited series production cars. The level of quality that they can maintain with these extremely rare cars is just astounding.

It's very impressive walking around the assembly line..it all happens in coordination with the just in time magazine (former recaro works building).. and you get the sense that nobody is working under stress or escalation.. it's a very well tuned place.
It was quite funny, I went with Porsche Club Francorchamps. Whenever anybody in our group asked a question to the factory guide and If she didn't know it.. It was something that I had picked up in all my years wasting time here on the forum.. So I could go, yeah that's that or for that reason. The most amazing thing to me, is that the production line just runs all the various models intermixed. So you can have anything come by at any given time Carrera 2 Carrera 4S 911 Turbo Carrera 2 Carrera 2 Convertible 911 Turbo S Carrera 4 Convertible etc etc There is no batching or grouping at all. It's not like they have a line for Coupe and one for Convertible or that they run the Turbos seperate from the rest Nope, theres 1 production line, and it does em all seemingly at random

Interesting video... Thanks.
Does anybody know what happened to the "Special Wishes" area of the factory? - Does it still exist?

Special Wishes I think you mean exclusive manufacture , is done in Werks 1, the original factory where it all started after the initial move

![]() I think it's somewhat like this, might be off with engines and taycan building as it was still under construction then, and it looks different on the ground then from up high. We weren't allowed cellphones so it's not like i could use google maps to see where I was at all times

well yeah but that is a loooong time ago.. the factory has reinvented itself completely according to the Toyota System..
Now it's called Exclusiv manufaktur They weren't making much money back when they made those slantnoses Now they do. Technically, the company that now makes Porsches.. is a different company all together The Slantnoses were made Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG was renamed in 2007 tp become Porsche SE The Car making business , was transferred to a new company again called Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (but different registration and management) and aptly sold to Volkswagen That cash was then leveraged so Porsche SE could buy controlling interest in Volkswagen AG. Most people are very confused and think Porsche was bought by VW It's the other way around !!! Porsche SE (the company that built the Slantnoses) bought Volkswagen AG, but to do so they shuffled around some assets, and put the new Porsche AG (the company that makes modern Porsches) under the VAG umbrella to fund it. They have since made enough money to clear off any of that risk capital and they could easily get Porsche AG from under VAG's umbrella , but there's just no economic reason to do that. Porsche SE is in full control of the entire kit and kaboodle.. so the name, the brand, the Porsche car business, is all fully under the management of Porsche SE, and since SE majority control is with the Porsche family, all is well.
