Cyclamen Plant

I know there are bigger issues going on in the world.

But in my little world I'm concerned about my cyclamen. It's winter time here so the plant should be flourishing. The petals have a burnt/lack of hydration look about them. I've tried keeping the potting mix soil damp and tried it not so damp, but still getting the burnt petals look. Plant is about three years old so it's an important part of the family LOL

Any ideas?

I think the pot you have it in is too small. I plant cyclamen every year but I usually plant in the ground. For the plants that I do in pots, I transplant to the ground after their season and they produce a pretty large bulb/rizome so it is my belief that they need some space to keep going

thanks Guys.

Vern. that is the bigger pot. the one I got it in a few years ago was tiny. But that leads to a clue which is consistent with cliff's comment. Soil Ph. When I put it in the (slightly) bigger pot I used potting mix I already had around the place that is especially for growing tulips. Maybe tulip potting mix has some extreme Ph that tulips like.

Ohhh, I like the watering bulb.

I have it on the kitchen window sill so it gets a water most days when I'm making breakfast. too much water maybe. But I do like the bulbs.

To me it looks like too much water:

How are you watering? Cyclamens prefer water to stay off flowers.

Is the soil well draining or does it hold water in? Well draining is better.

Only water when the soil is dry in the first 3 cm.

''Three things will hurt cyclamen: over-watering, heat and extreme light. If you place a potted cyclamen in bright sunlight or in very dark conditions, the plant will not do well. Perhaps the biggest complaint of cyclamen raised as houseplants is their seemingly untimely demise. Remember, these are cool-weather plants. If they wind up in too warm of a place, they may go dormant''

Thanks Stephanie, i water directly onto the soil. But I'm giving it waaaay to much water by the sounds of it.

Good advice Nota - thanks. It's not bright where the plant is. But I'm certainly guilty of the over watering crime LOL
