Can't find my other ticket stubs for their "final " tour. Seems like after the 80s, every tour was going to be their last ones. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1629843214.jpg |
And to think he was probably the "cleanest" of all the Stones.
|
About 15 yrs ago Keith said that they would keep performing until Charlie didnt want to do it anymore.
My guess is that is the last hurah ..the last go for the Stones. |

It was hard to think Michael Schumacher's records would be broken, but it has happened. The RS's are the oldest band still playing? Who's gonna top that? On the other hand, the day I stop working is going to be very close to the end for me. Some people just can't stop and put it all behind no matter how good or bad they are. Me, I'm like old brandy, better with age. This bit is a little OT for the thread, but books are out of style and dirt cheap. I'm buying lots of books and learning (I don't buy novels ;) ) every day. I always wished I had musician's ability. Can't buy that. Charley probably had a wonderful life all in. |

He always had a look of an ordinary Joe. Great musician and great life. RIP Charlie.

Thanks for everything, Charlie. RIP...

A total badass. I got to watch him warm up without the PA on before the Three Rivers Stadium show on the Steel Wheels tour. I was 10' away and it was such a sight to behold. He's been a hero for many years.

Watts collected vintage automobiles just for their aesthetics, as he didn’t have a driver’s license. “Charlie is a great English eccentric,” Richards said. “I mean, how else can you describe a guy who buys a 1936 Alfa Romeo just to look at the dashboard? Can’t drive — just sits there and looks at it.” Bandmate Ronnie Wood once claimed that Watts also had bespoke suits made to match each of his cars, just to look period-appropriate while sitting in them and listening to the engines run.

The brains behind it all.

Saw them in Rockford, IL 1981 at a 10K seat venue. Sat balcony behind the stage, which rotated. I spent a great deal of the concert just watching Charlie whack his kit. No double bass or 4 tom set up, just a jazz drummer's kit. No Baker or Bonham flailing, just solid drumming.
Ironically, I just listened to Watts At Scott's last week on a road trip and was again impressed by his solid jazz drumming. Seems like a Stones kind of day today... RIP |
Just to give you an idea of his power, syncopation and ability to handle the groove. RIP Charlie!

He had one of the weirdest playing styles of any drummer, ever.
Seemed like the nicest guy in the band, sorry to see him gone so early. |
Complex simplicity well mastered.

^^ Excellent choice...
