Price is a little high but it’s a really cool car and enthusiast owned. Rennlist is definitely where those guys hang out.

Better to pay a little more for a great car than get a bargain on an edgy car. “Cry once,” as Bruce Meyer used to say.

I hope prices still come back down. Before the pandemic there was an '09 997S around here for 45K. Should've pulled the trigger then... Miles were a little higher but would've been ok. Now they're 50-65K again.

How much higher were the miles? I passed on a 2010 997.2 S 6MT in white w 105k miles a couple years ago in San Jose for $39k. It needed tires and brakes immediately and had a deep scratch on the hood. Very decent shape cosmetically otherwise. I would have been in it ~$45k by the time I get it registered and addressed the issues.

It was a coupe, white w black interior. Nice looking car.

Haha yeah I remember you called and we chatted about it. That was different. This one was a silver one if I recall correctly, with Fister exhausts. The guy lived in Campbell... I think maybe 85K-95K miles.

Now there's a guy selling his manual 997.2S and wouldn't let go for $50K at 88K miles: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/d/san-francisco-porsche-911s/7370958325.html

I guess that's the law of supply and demand working well. I should just patiently wait.

Wise words. After I crunched some rough numbers, that one might not be too far off.

Typically, upgrades are not a 1 for 1 increase in valuation.
But that ain't no typical car. Plus, there's more $$ in upgrades, as well as the factory parts come with at that price, that make up for what current stock value is.

I'm just starting to look around, but hells bells, this checks a lot of boxes in my head and on paper..

Dang straight. Patience fo sho.

And that black looks fairly decent, too!

This is going to be a mixture of fun and frustration.

When I was searching for my '72, I saw many turds. Also passed on a couple good ones that in retrospect would've been a better fit. But I followed emotion over wisdom.

I'm armed with a few more tools this time around and feel good about the search.

You guys rock. I'm on Renn now with same username.

This just popped up in Scottsdale. Seems like a similar car at a much better price.

Thanks. What's goofy is the ad says it's an automatic, but the pic shows a manual.

That said, 40 for 95k miles ".1 S" ain't too bad, if it checks out.

What I've learned very quickly are the differences between 997.1 and .2

I'm firmly in the .2 camp.

For $40k for a 2006 997S, I'd be expecting extremely low miles and showroom condition.

I bought a 2006 997S 10 years ago. If I did it again, would gladly pay 20K more for this one right off the bat.

Nothing about that car is appealing to me. Looks like every other silver car with black interior, black rims, blacked out plasti-dip badges and red painted calipers.

^^^ I hear you. And that’s ok. To each their own.

I like silver cars. Also like IPAs.

20k more than you paid for yours? Or 20k ( meaning 83k ) more for this one now?

Do you still have your 997?

Bumping this...been looking a little more. I'm fairly certain I'm shelving the LR109 restore. It would be nearly $20k to just get it on the road with many thou more to make it "nice".

Work is nuts. More than half our team is no longer with us and there's a hiring freeze meaning we can't back-fill those spots.

Found this the other day. I could justify the money for car.

Wow, those red quilted floor mats are something!

It is weird that there's almost no mention of the year. I eventually saw it in the tags on the right side of the page.

It seems to be very well cared for.

Having had H&R springs before on a BMW or 2, I'd just leave those in the box. Unless of course you want the fillings in your teeth to rattle out.

God, those red floor mats are hideous

Yeah, those floor mats are certainly an "acquired taste" thing. I'd get rid of them.

If anyone "acquires" that taste, they need a "taste-ectomy".

Wow.

I'll know a lot more about 997.1's in the coming months.
