I do not have any tattoos but I am constantly amazed by what can be put on the body. It's easy to focus on the really bad ones but there are some really amazing artists doing tattoos.

If you are an artist and do tattoos, I would imagine it is amazing to be paid very well and see your work out where anyone can see it. You have a walking billboard of your talent.

Vinnny's tats tell a story. They are beautifully done.

I would suspect that age has everything to do with the divergence of opinions on this topic. The young you are the more open you would be? Just speculation on my part. In my generation, I am the oddity with not having any ink.

Sorry for your losses Vinny. I understand your tatooes are a way of dealing with your lacking/missing of your brother and best friend.

+1 to Vinny and the others with similar tats.

I don't think the responses are age related necessarily. Some folks stereotype, project, and judge with a broad brush... whether tats, hair length, sexual preference, smoking pot, politics, whatever .... it's just who they are. Some don't. Born in '60 here ... I don't ...

Like most things... it's not binary... but in shades of grey.

Some tats will illicit a "that's very cool" from me... other tats .... a you idiot... "WTF were you thinking".

It just depends.... like most things in my world... in varying degrees.

Just my .02....

I don't need my story displayed for all to see, and for me to have to explain, I prefer to remain a mystery.

You're assuming their motivations imo. Many folks are like you (I am), but some folks are attention ho's. Most (or at least many) tats probably aren't visible ... just a WAG. People are just different ....

I wish to clarify.
I voted sometimes attractive.
I would like to add, only if on a hot chick's body.
Just so we're clear.

I have a tattoo (right shoulder) and I would say that probably less than 10 friends/family are aware of it. Probably zero here at work. That's not what it's about for me. There are certainly people out there who get tattoos for attention, but for me (and I'm sure many) a tattoo is more of a personal statement - whether they are visible or not.

And...I'm sure that there are those that just "don't get it" and that's OK.

The Blue Oyster Bar?

The only tattoos I have are the scars that happened because my hand / leg / other part of my body was at the wrong place, wrong time.

For example: I have a small 1cm scar on the top of my right hand. When I was 12, I was over David Kelly's house in the country. They had a pasture for the cows fenced in by a barb wire / electrified wire fence. We often crossed the pasture as a shortcut to some trails. One of us would lift the barb wire to allow the other to duck under safely. Once when I offered to lift the barb wire, David told me to keep lifting the barb wire to create a bigger gap. I didn't notice how close I was getting to the hot electrified wire until it was too late! That wire gave me quite a shock, and the aforementioned "tattoo" to remember that prank. That scar reminds me of countless adventures we went on - bking all over, sledding in the winter, plinking, county fairs, wild blueberry picking... good times, simpler times...

people who don't have real scars trying to look cool.

the poll is misleading. there are bad tats and good ones.

i think a pretty girl, can pull off a great tattoo and make it look shockingly sexy and good.

(to be fair, a handsome guy gets the same latitude)

there was this younger woman that would scoop ice cream for a living. she had a flowery dragon thing on the front of her shoulder..it worked into the shapes and lines of her body..and hair-do. she pulled it off great..when she asked me what flavor i wanted, i said..."err"

If I had a paw tat for every dog I've owned I'd look like a cheetah

So True.

I have tats representing my kids on my forearms. Flatbutt-ette had a bf in high school that was always very polite to me. I always thought he was just a good kid. One day FB II asked him something related to his deference and the kid said something like this " why would I want to be rude to a man that carved his kids names into his skin?".
