What do we think of Douglas All Season tires from Walmart?

I just bought a used Prius for my DD. The front tires are Douglas and are brand new. The rears are Michelins and although has plenty of tread left, they are 6 years old. Should I just buy two new Douglas tires so all tires match, buy four new Michelins or buy two whatever’s on sale tires? What do you know about Douglas tires? I know they’re Goodyear tires but are they made very cheaply for Walmart?

Snow tires are not a place to save money IMO. Get a real brand name, or do some research online for good performance.

I would get two Michelins that match the rear ones and sell the Douglas on Craigslist 'Brand new, 20% discount" .

I have a pair of Douglas All Season tires on the back of my Fit
The fronts are General Alti-Max Arctics

Two years on the whole set of four and it drives as straight as an arrow. (hardly ever at over 75 mph)

I like them very much....and the price was great.

The tires are the only interface of your car to the road. I don't buy cheap tires anymore.

When I was 16 and needed tires for my 36 HP 1960 VW bug I did buy bias ply recap tires. With a 0 to 60 of infinite with a headwind and 72 second with a tail wind tires were no the issue. $24 for four tires mounted and balanced tax and fees paid.

Since then, I have only bought radials. I prefer top quality tires. After 30 years of owning my El Camino I have bought a lot of tires. One of my clients long ago was a local tire manufacturer, Dayton tire. They made a tire right here in OKC that was the perfect size for my Elky and cheap. They were fine in the dry, but OMG scary in the rain. Stopping was terrifying on rainy or icy days, and not much difference from wet to ice, just bad. I was really happy to dump those tires and get something better.

All is good if the Prius only goes 25 mph.

the most exciting thing to ever happen to me while driving was a catastrophic failure of a front tire at highways speed. good times!!

i would buy all new tires and start from scratch. i did it with my current toyota and the tire guy told me there were several tire plugs in my bald tires. hahah.. the temp plug type.

a prius tire has to be about $125 each right? its like a lawnmower tire! for $500 i would start fresh. just me. my wife rides with me. i'm not giving her ammo to nag me in death.

Owned by Goodyear similar to the Kelly branded Edge A/S the way it looks to me. From what I can find they're made in the USA. I say give em' a shot! It's not like you're gonna track the Prius. As long as they rate well in the primary conditions you drive in... go for it.

You might get a tire tread depth gauge and see how much wear the fronts have vs a new tire.

^that about covers it^

I know how to drive, but the rest of the world sucks. I buy good tires.

Cheap tires are probably fine 99.9% of the time until you need to perform an emergency stop or evasive maneuver to avoid an accident. Then when you really need not just good tires, but great tires....

When I worked for Goodyear we made Douglas at the Kelly Springfield plant in Tyler, TX (and other plants). They use the exact same materials and release standards as any Goodyear tire. In many cases the same green tire was used in molds that were labeled as Goodyear, Kelly, Douglas, and several others.

I like all four tires to match, scratch that, I wouldn’t run four tires that didn’t match.

Six years doesn’t sound like a tire is too old to most people but I no longer run tires until they are worn out. After five years, they are on borrowed time with me.

I would buy two new matching Douglas tires.

I don’t have any experience with them but I once threw some General tires onto a daily driver Audi and was shocked how good they were. The guys at the Tire Rack clued me in, they were essentially a Bridgestone tire with a different name on the outside. Bridgestone had bought General and was trying to bring it up-market somewhat. They were killer tires for a daily driver and only $400 for the set. The Goodyear/Douglas relationship might be similar to that.

But even good tires rotated frequently and on a vehicle with good alignment will last quite a long time.
