Emergency tire inflator.. what do you use/recommend?

I'm not sure how fond I am of it being battery powered only. But it's also a flashlight. It has a built in pressure gauge so that's nice. Right now they have a buy 2 get one "free" for $150 but that's really only saving about $21 for the three.

Maybe I'm just too old school? I like the idea of plugging it into the cigarette (aux 12 volt port today) lighter like this one does.

This one only costs $25. I can buy two for less than the price of the battery powered unit.

That's the 1000 peak/500 instant which seems like overkill for what she drives. The 700/350 would seem to be plenty for a 4cyl gasser and it's only $58

Which one? I think we were typing at the same time. The Inflate-R or the Stanley battery booster and air pump. I like the booster/pump best

Yeah me too. That seems like a good all around tool to have in a car. I just need to decide which one is best for her needs. I should probably start by checking the CCA on her battery to help determine which one would be the best option.

i have two that plug into the cig lighter. 1 in the 911 the other in the vw. both different brands. can’t recall brands but i can look. doesn’t matter anyway since i’ve only used each once and can’t speak to how dependable they are. the times i used them, they did work. however, one of them was a gift to my dad who used it and it blew the fuse in his jeep so he gave it back to me. i tried it and didn’t have that issue.

to be honest i actually prefer using an old fashion style hand pump that i also use for my bikes. i would go to a bike shop and buy one of those. i don’t trust the pressure gauges on those chinese electric pumps

to check pressure i have kept one of these in each of my vehicles for many years…i love how if you overshoot the psi, you just press the button to let air out to get psi perfect

i also keep a puncture/plug kit in the 911 because i wouldn’t trust the spare tire…..i haven’t had to use it yet but i understand they can be difficult to use

A tire plug kit! Never thought of that for my 911. I've always worried about picking something up while driving out to my brothers place in VA. They aren't hard to use. I've slapped plugs in several ski loader tires but I've never tried on a car tire.

AAA and a can of slime tire inflator.

Did some looking and it appears a 500 CCA battery is standard for the 2.5l 4cyl Fusion. I think I'm gonna get her the 1000 model.

I've always used a hand pump. My old 911 had the tool kit, but not the inflator. My boxster included the inflator, and I've probably used it 20 times over the past 10 years. It beats the heck out of a hand pump. The gauge is close enough to know when to stop adding air. I then have a gauge in the glove box that I double check the pressure with.

Yes, for years, I carried a plug kit, and I used it. I haven't carried it in the Boxster.

I have one in my El Camino and my 911. The El Camino has a good sizes storage area behind the seats. So it is a larger unit with lots of plastic case to make a neat looking compressor package. That is way too big for the 911. Long ago I looked everywhere for a minimal size, not fancy case, air pump. I found one that fits next to the spare tire in the right front corner. I have to use a plastic grocery store bag to wrap up the cords and keep it together. It would take 30 minutes to inflate a tire, but it will do it.

I may look for a newer one designed for motorcycles. Size is the big thing for a 911 trunk space.

Over the years on two occasions in 30 years I have walked out to my El Camino and had a really low tire. I just pumped it up, and drove to a tire repair store close by.

This thread made me realize that when I removed my lighter and replaced it with a dedicated USB port I made the portable compressor in the trunk useless.

Partly why I just put one of the cigarette lighter USB adapters in my 911. I can take it out and still have a 12v option.
