The world has gone crazy. This dang thing sold for $29k.
Am I missing something? And it is the wrong color and pre-face lift

It took 34 years, but it's just about back to original sticker.

$30,000 in 1987? It's not even an M.

Sorry, the IS was only 27.6K, so I missed by $1,700 (without looking it up before posting the first time).
edit: also missed by one model year, as the IS went to, interestingly enough, $29.3K in 1988 _

My apologizes. You are correct. I paid $75,000 for a house in 87!

$29K is high but not off the scale for a low miles, super clean example. Does it make sense? Doesn’t have to. These are becoming cult cars, all over YouTube etc, and for an iconic 80s car the parts are still plentiful.

covid effect + Bring a trailer effect + e30 effect = absurd pricing triple threat
I am hoping this all cools off soon, though I have been considering cashing in my exige given the ridicularity of prices lotus has been bring on BAT lately

We paid $60K for our first home at about that same time. I'm guessing that, like us, you wondered how on earth you were ever going to make the payments. _

That is an interesting data point, I didnt realize a 3 series was close to 30k in the late 80s. Google says a 911 was ~ 34-44k.
definitely a contrast to today where 3 series can be in the 40s and a normal 911 can be approx 1 billion USD.

I paid around $23k for my '86 right off the floor. Got a decent trade on an '85 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Drove that E30 for 7 years and 168k miles before selling her on, and regretting it.

$29k is actually lower than I expected.
Exceptional E30s have been $20k cars for almost 5 years now. I would have expected a unicorn E30 to be hitting $40k by now with COVID market

Hey, a 60hp 356A is 120K now, as mentioned above a 240Z sold for 75K... E30s are hot right now. Everything < year 2000 is hot right now.... E46 M3 are also going nuts... It's like there's been a hyperinflation on cars and nobody told my employers to bump my salary by the same amount. Welcome to the end of our hobby courtesy of a internet connected world of car buyers with money ;-) Just in time for electrification.

I remember a few years ago, Wayne Carini said he didn't know much about Porsche (or Porsh as he called it) and that he didn't typically buy/sell them. FF a couple of years when early 911s started taking off in price and not surprisingly he knew everything about them and was trading them. Is it the chicken or the egg? TV air time or just interest? I'm sure it is a lot of both but sadly as you say, the hobby gets shut down for most people.
