What kind of duckling is this?
I have a lot of ducks at my house, and whenever they have ducklings, they are the typical mallard brown and yellow. This clutch is a little different as there are 2 solid black ducklings. Mama duck's siblings look like mallards, or a Hawaiian duck hybrid. Mama, otoh, looks like a mallard, but with much lighter coloring.

Some duck species practice what is called "egg dumping" where they sneak eggs into other ducks nests. While gathering a sufficient clutch of eggs to start the incubation period the nests are left unattended while the hen forages for food to produce more eggs. Another hen can leave her eggs at that time. Once the primary hen starts sitting on the nest, the eggs all mature at the same rate and hatch together. All the ducklings bond to whoever hatched them. Perhaps the dark ducklings are from another type of duck.
