In the Seven Samurai, the 7 Ronin were only killed by guns, not swords.

I haven’t watched it in years but I don’t think the Samurai had guns other than the young whippersnappeer who found one or sometching like that.

Time to watch it again.

The bad guys have guns, the 7 samurai who protect the village don't have any guns, but the several of them that are killed are by gunshots.

The original is a great movie. I've watched it many times over the years.

The remake with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt was OK but not as good as the original.

On the "the holster butt forward" thing, I think that came from the "Cavalry Draw".

That was part of the point, that the type of warrior who would protect a village in return for some rice and a roof, was the same type of warrior that no longer belonged in this world, it had moved on. Guns, the great equalizer, had destroyed honor and integrity. Previously, you had to EARN your rights and a warrior, but now you can hand a rifle to any riff raff and they can be part of an "army", and kill faster and cleaner.

Around that same time in feudal Japan, the gun was allowing early imperialism to rise up...men who had money and influence were creating armies with guns, and that led to a government with guns, and that destroyed the local-rule feudal society. The underrated "Last Samurai" with the overrated Tom Cruise was sitting in that era as well.

No comparison between the two.

I watched the original again last night. That opening scene when Yul and McQueen escort the hearse to the cemetery. The scene later with Colburn and his knife. Bronson. Vaughn.

It's ridiculously good.......
