If you work on your feet all day
you might want to consider a pair of Hokas. Found the company searching online for work on your feet all day shoes, saw they are sold by the Mass General Hospital Foot & Ankle store and generally get rave reviews. Newish company in the world of shoes.
I got the Cliftons, they are ultralight, ultrasoft like you are walking on marshmallow fluff. Extremely comfortable. Might get a pair to try running again. Went to a local running store to try them out, they didn't have the color I wanted so a sister store shipped them. Nice handwritten note in the box. i'm waiting for this very generous coupon program my wifes job is giving us.
something like 30% off at a local sporting goods store. i will get a new down vest and pair of Hoka trail shoes. the Speedgoats or something. mid highs. |
The problem with ultra - soft marshmallowy cloud shoes (in my experience) is that they break down fairly quickly (I weigh 180) and if I try to get some extra life out of them then joint pain is my reward. I've had the same experience with a few of the Nike "Free" styles and a pair of Merrill "Barefoot" trail shoes that in both cases I loved while they lasted but they didn't last long. (And in the case of the Merrills, even if I was willing to pay to replace them on a fairly regular basis, they no longer make the style that I want..)
Your mileage may vary. I've always been very hard on footwear. (Edit, those HOKA's look like a direct copy of some of the Nike's I sampled in the past.) |
A lot of people working on set like the ON shoes made by a Swiss company. I haven't personally tried them but I know people who swear by them...

I have suffered from a variety of ankle issues and walking has never been easy, even as a kid.....I had developed extreme problems walking for anything more than 15 minutes, and with a younger pup a few years back, I sought out some help from a small, family owned running supply store....they suggested to Hoka's and it really transformed my walking abilities.....but, as mentioned, the great comfort seams to disintegrate after 3-6 months for me.....I'm ok buying a new pair as they wear out, and the old pair gets used for garage duty.....

Funny. I talked to the ON people for work a few years ago. Seemed like a goofy model. Shows how much I know about shoes. I think they just went public...

Blown polyurethane is not durable. Will last longer if you don't wear them every day so they can recover a bit.

My wife likes Hoka's. She's a nurse and has to walk and stand a lot on hard floors. Usually 12 hour shifts.

I wear Allbirds running shoes. A small amount of trail running and some gym time. Very light.

I have issues with Plantar Fasciitis. The only shoes I can wear and work all day are Hokas. I have three pair that I rotate wearing. The only thing I don’t like is when I’m walking on uneven surfaces. I don’t feel connected to the ground due to their marshmallow cloud like sole. Takes some getting used to.

I bought the "Bonsall" but on other websites in the USA it's known as the "Bobcat". Great boot when your walking some miles. https://www.redbackboots.com |
there's walking and there is standing.
For walking you want the lightest you can get. I used to work in a large factory and walked many kilometres a day. If I wore steel caped boots - like I was meant to, I was tired at the end of the day. If I wore light weight hiker boots like my Salomons I felt great at the end of the day. think about the hundreds of unnecessary kilos you have lifted in a day. Standing, anything that is comfortable. |
I have three months into a pair of HOKA One One Bondi 7's.
I'm pretty happy. They have trans fluid on them but they are for the shop. Next pair will be these. All black. https://www.hoka.com/en/us/mens-road/bondi-sr/192410928392.html?source=shoppingsite_PLA_1110520-BBLC-07&kpid=1110520-BBLC-07&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&gclid=EAIaIQob ChMItIHOxe6F8wIVtf_jBx11LgrTEAQYBiABEgKlRvD_BwE&gc lsrc=aw.ds |

I have one pair with a harder, sturdier soles, still very comfortable but more support. After a day in my steel toe working shoes, a pair of skechers feels like heaven. Those Hoka's and ON's have caught my eye now. I'll have to look for a vendor here. |
