The car owner is demanding that this YouTube vid is taken down

Read the comments. Seems to me like the video belongs to the guy with the camera, not the owner this car being filmed in a public arena. One for the European courts, I guess.

I hadn't seen the video, but I'd seen a pic of the crashed car. That really sucks. Glad it wasn't one of Waynes.

Yeah, video is owned by the guy doing the filming. But then some weird stuff happens on the 'Net in Europe. I'll be surprised if this gets pulled.

Once it is on the internet, it is there forever. The video owner may take it down, but it has been download and copied thousands if not millions of times. It is like trying to unring a bell. Once it is uploaded, it is out there forever.

That’s a shame, that guy doesn’t have enough skill to operate that car properly. Terrible reflexes.

I wonder how old the tires were and how many heat cycles they had on them….

It is just a car, it can be rebuilt better than original, just like Steve Austin, and for less than 6 million.

Way back in the late 1970s I was part of the Peachstate region PCA and the Ferrari club would hire the Porsche club member to run an track day for fun runs in their Ferrari's. I got to ride in the 6th Daytona ever made, around the track.

One of the cars there was in private ownership, and it was the Ferrari 312-T that Niki Lauda won in. The mechanic was out doing a warm up lap, and he stuffed it into the wall. The owner did not care, he said he would send it to Ferrari and have it fixed, just cut a check.

Our club made enough cash that we would be able to run our cars at Road Atlanta the next weekend for no more money. I ran my 914 2.0 around the track having a blast. Then I got a ride in a old used 911 race car the owner paid very little for as it was just an old used race car. It was a real RSR.

Read about this over coffee this morning but didn't watch the video until now. I was expecting a video of someone losing it through Eau Rouge or something like that. Crash was...underwhelming. If he hadn't whipped his d**k out threatening legal action, etc. this would have been seen by let's say a medium-sized number of enthusiasts and then there would be other videos and life would go on. Now e'r'body and their uncle mother and brother is going to know about it and make fun about it, and the video is *still* going to be on the internet forever. Perhaps he's just one of those people with buckets of money who thinks they can get their way with threats.

Yep, it is the Barbara Streisand effect.

It was a million dollar race car that now needs a $300k repair.
After it's repaired the value certainly will be diminished by the video of it being heavily damaged.
Plus the driver's ego has been shattered from the video of his crash.
Maybe it broke an axle the way it rotated?

How many 962s were raced and NOT damaged in some sort of shunt? I have no idea, but I bet most had crash damage during testing or races. Unless the tub is warped or bent, it can be fixed to be as good if not better than before.

Maybe Wayne can chime in on the number of crashed and repaired cars out there. Does a crash like that really hurt the value if it is fixed properly? It is not a work of art by Michelangelo, and fixed by some hack, it can be fixed to be as good as before, it is just a car. A very expensive car, but so what, it is a machine with parts that can be put back as before.

I hope the tub is OK. The foot box looked a little mangled, but it sure seemed to me that the front suspension and the bodywork absorbed a lot of the energy; it didn't look like he was going fast enough to do that kind of damage - yeah, he went in full frontal - but he was hardly spooling up when he jinked hard right.

At the historic race weekend in the driver's meeting the race director told us...
"Your car already has great history the only history you can make for it is bad history".

A 962 expert in England restores 962s properly but it takes months or years to get your 962 restored.
I think Wayne has had a 962 at this shop for a while now.
