I was riveted the entire movie and could have sat through DII immediately after. Didn't seem like 2.5 hrs had passed honestly.
Here's to hoping that they took a page from Jackson's book, when filming LOTR, maintaining the continuity of character depiction. |
Dune part 2 has just been announced. :)

Saw that YT vid earlier, they absolutely nailed it. For that bozo to insinuate a scifi novel set thousands of years in the future is outdated is truely moronic. It isn't enough for these hwood jagoffs that the BG's are the most powerful group in the duniverse manipulating everything behind the scenes... and incidentally influencing the concept of the jedi in another universe, they decided to emasculate another patriarchy... What ever Heading out to the local imax (an hour from home) with the family tomorrow to see it. I'm still excited regardless |
My butt didn't hurt ONCE while watching it..

Good flick.. They spent to much time on artsy photography and left important subject matter out... Oh well. I really loved all the space craft and thopters.... And the highliner concept was awesome.

"What's in the box?" ;)

Watched yesterday. I thought it was beautifully done. The guy playing Paul was great. I was disappointed that some of the most memorable scenes in the book were lacking some of the weight in the movie.
I debate: Would I have liked it more if I hadn't read the book or did I understand some of the scenes better because I did read the book? |
I haven't read the book and I loved the movie.
I tried reading it years ago but just couldn't get past the first 20 pages. - This from someone who lives for Shakespeare. |

I don't really have a problem with the females taking down much bigger opponents. To the OP's point, when there is a size and strength difference, it's less likely that the female would prevail in real life. But it's a movie. I'm sure Jet Li is going to do fine against bigger bad guys.
There has to be a corresponding increase in skill level when the bad guy is bigger. That's why Mike Tyson doesn't fight Oscar de la Hoya. Anyway, I got real tired watching movies where the girl was hiding behind the couch sobbing while her boyfriend was getting gutted by Freddie Kreuger, or Michael Myers, or Jason Vorhees. Let the women jump in there and trade blows and maybe get shanked in the end. It's better than being a passive victim. |
this was fun to watch

Long and slow. Only once or twice did characters display any evidence of personality. No action sequences worth of the name.
Looked good. But I still prefer the David lynch glorious train wreck. |

^^^ Fat Bastard?

I liked the movie. And im kinda getting the story locked down.

Who could mistake that fat puss filled face? :) |
As to reading the books, their really is a ton of depth to the overall saga. Brian Herbert's books lacked some of the artistry of his fathers, however they did an excellent job of filling out the pre-dune saga history both the political landscape and the characters.
I think this film does a better job of explaining the back story than lynch's, but it's only a small part of an extremely well woven tapestry within the duniverse. If you cant get through it the old fashioned way, I suggest the audio versions especially if you work alone, it's an awesome trip through a very well imagineered Sci fi universe. |
