9th story "Fall" from building

Not sure, but it looks like he jumped, landed on a BMW 3 series and survived

Not posting the photo with him tangled in the car. But here is the poor car afterwards

If bet if you landed that roof just right, it would absorb a ton of energy . As long as you did not go through the slicer. Crazy he lived .
Id have monkey rolled that myself
My 53 year old brother and law just fell off a 3 story roof . He walked away from it , a pretty lucky guy.
He said , as soon he knew he was going over, he made a leap for a tree that was about 10 feet away and fell down through the branches .

if he monkey-rolled correctly, that car would buff out! :D

Good thing the BMW wasn't a cabriolet.

Gentlemen, we have a new monkey-roll competitor. Puffy jackets.

KFC911 10-08-2021 11:19 AM

A proper "monkey roll" wouldn't have left a scratch on the BMW.... so it wasn't Sniper :)

pmax 10-08-2021 11:22 AM

Cheap roof.

Good thing the car's unoccupied.

The first time a face was effective:

The video also shows a face mask strap still dangling from the guy’s ear, despite falling roughly 100 feet.

He had a long way to go, and a short time to get there...

Reminds me of this story in Look Magazine in 1947. This woman jumped from the Empire State building. Sad.

My exact first thought.

red-beard 10-08-2021 11:44 AM

I guess, too much windage? Pushed off too much?

d=1/2 a t^2

12 feet per floor = 108 feet

108*2/32.2=t^2

t = 2.6 seconds

If the sidewalk is 10 feet wide plus 3 feet to middle of car, then he was doing about 5 feet per second horizontally. That is about 3.5 mph, walking speed.

Too soon?

LOL!

Wow, year, lucky. Tell him not to buy any lottery tickets because he just used up his luck.

ROFLMAO. I read that, twice, and probably cocked my head to the side like a dog. Yeah honey, I'm sure the puffy jacket did it.

New sport, 2022, puffy jacket skydiving!

This reminds me of the suicide of Evelyn Hale from the Empire state building. I think she was dubbed the "fallen angel"

I would think his lateral movement would show a precipitous drop off.

So much nicer than a concrete splat.

For sale: BMW that ran well when parked 😁. Sunroof currently doesn't work may be an easy fix 😋

Need to bend your knees on landing from that sort of height

You mean like when you do a cannonball into a swimming pool?

Yep, bend your knees and wear a puffy jacket!

drcoastline 10-08-2021 12:23 PM

I had two uncles both fall from heights of six stories and survived.

One shortly after WWII was a mason in washington DC. working on an elevator shaft. Fell feet first. He was giviien last rights. Pulled through, was told he would never walk again. Walked his only child down the alter in the early 1990's.

The other also a maso, working on a new hotel in our town. A piece of something came off the roof and hit him knocking him off the scaffold. Fractured his back, was in traction for some time but fully recovered. This same guy was shot in the head by a 22L in a shooting gallery on our boardwalk. Bullett ricocheted lodging behind his ear. The bullett was never removed.

Sooner or later 10-08-2021 12:30 PM

When I was about 10 I fell out of the top of a big oak tree. At least 30 ft. I can remember bouncing off limbs on the way down. Landed flat on my back and knocked the breath out of me. I had a big gash in the inside of my left calf.

When I finally caught my breath I told my friends I was going home. I went out the back gate and walked the two blocks home. Then the trip to the doctors office.

Being a kid the wound didn't slow me down. The stitches pulled out and my scar is about a half inch wide and three inches long.

I can't imagine 9 stories.

Steve Carlton 10-08-2021 12:31 PM

For God's sake! Please do this crap above a BMW.

masraum 10-08-2021 12:32 PM

Years ago, I remember something that was either on "That's Incredible" or maybe "Real People." It was about a skydiver whose 'chute didn't open. They landed in someone's back yard. The ground was soft and they survived. On the show, they had a photo of the back yard that showed the person shaped dent in the ground. I think it was 8-12" deep.

If you search the 'Net, there are actually several cases where a skydiver landed without a 'chute and survived.

Crowbob 10-08-2021 12:48 PM

IMO, if you jump outa a airplane, you’re brain dead already.

Candidate for an easy cabriolet conversion.

Why are we making fun of this?

ROFLMAO!

Wow, I wonder if he really survived or of he ran off and was dead hours later.

Are we sure that wasn't a coyote? Because I'm pretty sure I've seen that exact stunt performed by one Wile E Coyote before.

Eh, it's fun.

In the Army, the way our chutes are designed, it's more of a "semi-controlled fall" than skydiving. The impact we hit the ground at is roughly equivalent to jumping off a 2 or 3 story building without a chute. That's why the first 2 weeks of the school are spent on learning how to hit the ground. ;)

Only near-fall I ever had that scared me was as a "kid" working for my dad as a roofer. Was painting the edge or a roof on a 6-story building. Not tied off or anything cuz I'm young, invincible, and dumb. Big gust of wind comes up and nearly takes me over. I was on my tiptoes wobbling back and forth--must've looked like a cartoon to the other guys on the roof, I dunno. Once I got my balance and back-stepped is when the "fear" really set in, and I just went and sat in the middle of the roof for a good 10 minutes. That could've been a bad day, especially since there was no BMW beneath me to break the fall. :D

Yep, that would do it. I might have to take the rest of the day off after that one.

Could have been. All we usually get is a puff of dust. Check here...

Not quite, was thinking more like a cool as heck super hero landing, like Thor, Batman or Spiderman, that type thing

My second

In college I had a night janitor job in a 10 story building. Woman hid in a bathroom and jumped after people left. Fell 8 stories and landed on top of this glass topped sun room deal. She was a mess. Had bad dreams about it for a while

ckissick 10-08-2021 11:24 PM

This story would have been much more amusing (to us old timers on Pelican) if the guy had landed on a black Audi wagon.

With snow tires, and a gererator in the back?

His backward shoulder arm rotation is something you can never unsee

Good time to check those sunroof drains !
