What's the size of your lawn/property? I wonder because with over an acre here...I can't see an e-weedwacker or mower working here. |
Well, one good thing about this is I will no longer have to use my California Regulated Gas Can which doesn't let out any vapors but spills about a cup of gas every time I use it.
|
As far as electric chain saws.....my Dewalt electric chain saw is terrific and works better than any gas chain saw I've ever had - and it starts every time. I'm not sure how the lumber industry will work out but for home use, Dewalt is fine.
By the way, our power went out today at work. I'm not sure if it is related to PG&G rolling blackouts that were announced for today or if it's due to the wind - we have both today. |

And, please others, stop with the "it's a toy": Like electric cars there is s real sweet spot in performance that gas powered stuff is just not as competent as a battery-powered tool. Torque is one, both the onset and sustainment. Are they tools for three hours? No, but that is not the point. If you haven't spent quality time with battery powered tools I am not interested in your opinion. I keep a charging station rotation that NASA would envy...six battery packs always ready. |
I used to be a master mechanic and almost CARB-certified.
Something like 1/4 of California air pollution is blown in across the vast sea. (that is probably understated) Meanwhile the US EPA, Congress, World environmental institutions, etc etc do nothing. Do you really know how your iPhone is made...from sourcing materials...to point of sale? The Carbon Credit system is about the supplementing wealthy land owners through legislation which forces vapor-ware paperwork payments. AKA a mob. It moves numbers on paper. It is all a facade. |
Sorry Seahawk, but there's not a pro around here that will agree with you and none of the battery powered tools are practical for them. If cutting "a" small lawn, or small trees, limbs, etc. then they absolutely have their niche, but don't even try to suggest they can compete with 2-cycle stuff and be cost effective. You have yours .... I have mine. That 58V blower I posted earlier was "the best" .... and it sucks imo.... it simply fails miserably for blowing leaves. I'll never use a battery powered chainsaw or line trimmer either... they just aren't practical for me and never will because I have "non-toys" instead.
If something isn't broke .... then CA will probably break it... or try ;). To each their own... |

Sorry. It is like a 1 ton truck. There is not one suburban homeowner on this planet without an RV or boat that needs one but they'll tell you they do. Sorry. On my farm time and maintenance is key. I have electric blowers for my garage, stable and equipment barns: Pull trigger, move air. I bought one first, spent time with it then decided to get more. You do you, I'll do me. |
I'll grant that it might not be "the best", but it's a hand held not a backpack. All of the hand helds (even 2-cycles) are pitiful compared to my Stihl and Echo backpack blowers that I've had forever.

Totally agree. You need a backpack or walk behind to really move some leaves. Handhelds are great for light work though. My point was just that the best battery handhelds pretty much line up performance wise with the gas handhelds. |
Hey Seahawk .... my F150 is a "toy truck" ... but gets the job done (for me).
Naw... it's not a toy... but it's not a REAL truck either... you can call it a toy tho' and I'll know what ya mean ;) |

I've got two older power washers waiting oil changes and new gasoline to ever function again. Chemical fluids are sometimes a pain in the donkey. Given that a brand new mover crapped out after only one summer...after trying new gas and oil and starter fluid and spark plug and pulling the carb..and my back... I'm now sold on electric for small jobs. Bought a $100 power washer from menards and it will do a single story nicely. Not much more without a ladder and time. Whatever. It was a joy to use. No fuss except connections. Small. Lightweight. Fits in a shelf. Store all batteries and water indoors over winter with zero smell. Buy a 50ft 10gauge extension cord and extra hose. |

I recently went electric battery powered for my leaf or grass blower.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1098815-i-need-new-leaf-blower-get-2.html After several uses I can say for my needs it is perfect. No more rope to pull and it simply works. I use it in "Turbo mode" (just as stupid as a Taycan Turbo name) and it has never come close to running out of power. I have about 1/4 of a mile of edging for my sidewalks. The grass get on the sidewalks, but it is easy to blow it off into the yard. Clean sidewalks and all is cool. I don't blow the clipping into the street. It will never last the 20 years the old blower lasted, but that is expected in a throw away world. I can't image any electric mower could handle my lawn and the Honda mower is just a few years old and should outlast me. My string trimmer may get replaced with a battery operated unit. My old, made in US steel bladed edger is a walk behind unit I bought in 1981. It starts on the first pull, and has grease zerks to keep the wheels lubes. It will likely outlast me as well. |

OTOH, our ports are cleaning up. |
Keep that environmental crap on the left coast. Try running a chainsaw for a week while power is out after a hurricane. Or being with no AC for 2 weeks after Hurricane Ida. Nut jobs....

Well, I wasn't and they couldn't find dick. The funny thing was that I had a loaded 9mm in the cab and they didn't see that. Forest for the trees. 2 patrol cars, mind you. Yeah, you stay home. So will I. Looseranna. |
Looseranna? hahah, you gonna follow that up "I know you are but what am I
', from a local 3rd grader? |
