Gobble Gobble!

Ran to the dump this morning, saw these guys in a field on the way back.... Unfortunately, someone just bought the acreage and is building a house (that yellow blob in far background is a debris bin)

Where are you? We re-introduced Wild Turkeys here seven year ago and they are doing great.

When they launch, it is an aero show.

Picture was after a tree fell last year.

Turkeys all over around here. They seem real aware of traffic...hardly ever see one hit by a car.

Just curious.

We have worked hard to get them back.

Neat birds.

Interesting, I wasn't aware they were there, but then my FL experience is mostly much farther south or closer to P'cola.

We have plenty of turkeys here, but not as many as past years it seems.

Up until about five years ago, turkeys were plentiful in my neighborhood. Then the foxes and coyotes showed up.

We've got those turkeys all over the place up here. They do make a helluva a racket when they try to launch.

You should watch ‘em at sunrise when they drop, as God is my witness, like sacks of wet cement from their roosts 30 feet up the trees in the woods. They try to sorta glide/flap/drop and unsuccessfully avoid branches on the way down.

Upon contact they stumble around a bit, shake off their displaced feathers and be on their merry way one by one.

We used to have wild turkeys show up in the parking lot of my office in suburban Boston back in the day, they were really territorial and generally acted like *********s. It was pretty exciting the first time they showed up, thereafter it was "ugh... I hope they leave before I need to go get in my car."
