Why is my mouse double clicking randomly?

Started about a week ago. I've swapped devices, changed the batteries, plugged into a different UBS port. Disabled Windows driver and installed logitech driver. nothing above worked.

Sometime a left click is a double click. Driving me crazy. It's bad enough that a click on the back arrow sometimes goes back multiple pages, but it's damn hard to edit a word document.

?? it is actually a logitech 3 button track ball. Been using them for years, I don't think it's operator error. Swapped with a spare/new one, same results.

I'm guessing a windows update bug.?

Can you go into the control panel and adjust the properties of the mouse ? I only use laptops with touch pads but thats the way they work.

"Sometime a left click is a double click. "

likely a dirty switch.

Clean or replace.

Load Rkill and Malwarebytes. Load them from a a USB drive, since some viruses prevent you from downloading the files.

There were certain Logitech mouses that had this as a common failure mode.
This happened to me and I tried to fix it then ended up getting a new Logitech mouse.
My new mouse (Performance MX) is good until the rechargeable battery dies - which seems much faster than advertised.

...but he said he tried a different device so that likely rules out the mouse hardware.

I wonder if their is an accessibility setting in Windows..

..or maybe your “double click” speed is set so long that your previous click and the next one are registering as a double.

I wouldn't say so. A spare sitting in a drawer is also likely suspect. --BTDT . I've been amazed how little it takes to make a switch dirty .

I suppose that one could swap mouse buttons in software. Test that way.

Flakey USB connection?

Yeah, w/ respect to my BTDT comment, this video (Below) is pretty much spot on --same mouse (x2) that had the same problem (x2) that I experienced. ...and fixed. (x2) And, being a gamer's mouse, those switches are more heavy duty than most. --yet still get dirty.

Oh, one comment about that vid; he cleaned the switchs the hard way (for that mouse.) --he replaced the switches. (not needed)

the switches can be disassembled while on the board (PCB) and cleaned. Much easier w/o de-solder/solder.

Thank you.

Swapped a third corded one, problem seems to be gone. (Yes, I really like this track ball)

Never thought two would be bad at same time......

I'm glad to help.

You may want to look at upgrading to the MX Ergo Advanced. It's rated at 10-million clicks compared to the 100k click guarantee of the M570. And is nicer in many other ways.

Seems highly unlikely that two would fail in exactly the same way at the same time... ...but given what he wrote - well - he should also buy a lottery tic.

Oh, and if the switch contacts are silver(plate) or copper the oxide layer will form even in a drawer. -tarnish, not so conductive.

Edit ...which in a wireless device is challenging for the minimal current used to save battery.

As above, this was a common issue on certain Logitech mice. Years ago I purchased 2 MX "Anywhere" mice that both exhibited the same double-click problem within the first year of use.
I bought 2 more, and those started to do the same thing within the following year of use. I called Logitech about it, and their customer service was great.
I had 4 new mice delivered to my door within a week. Still using the first 2 replacements and all is good after 2+ years of use.
