If you want some enjoyment, checkout Jamel aka Jamal on youtube. 40 year old black man raised in Compton, discovering classic rock and roll. And then he found the Dead and Got On The Bus.

I've heard that version of Dark Star many times. I just can't remember which show it was. Is it Europe '72?

This quote by Robert Hunter (who wrote the lyrics) about the lyrics is hilarious.

He is great.

I do a once a week swing by his site.

Big heart.

Full disclosure, I was never a GD fan. My wife was/is but I simply never got it.

Then the album, "Dedicated" came out and I heard them probably for the first time in a manner I could relate to: Burning Spear's cover of Estimated Prophet was a revelation.

No. From Fillmore 1969

Were any of you old timers at the springfield creamery benefit (owned by Ken Kesey's brother) show on 8/27/72? My favorite show and the film (sunshine daydream) is probably my favorite bit of film by anyone or anything. If you were, then i am really really jealous

Here's a very nice Birdsong from that show - the china/rider from that show is the best one ive heard....Bobby's playing is really really great

I still have my Orange Sunshine LSD card

https://www.kcet.org/shows/artbound/laguna-beach-in-the-sixties-a-colony-for-the-arts

Orange Sunshine mixed with Nestles Quick was sold as Chocolate Mescaline, I confess.

Life was different then.

Kesey pre dated the Dead..so the Dead were Kesey Heads. Kesey had his Electric Kool Aid Acid raves where the Dead would show up.

Nancy Pelosi in her hippy days was the Acid Queen.where she would hand out the kool aid..and still is for that matter. Ever notice the bug eyes shyt eating grin and stacatto speech pattern..one too many hits of the L boyz.

This weeks Deadcast has good acid test content..Owsley, Kesey etc....listening now while I work

The Fox Theatre (St Louis Collection) box set just arrived this morning and man is it killer.....20 discs of 71, 72, and 73 shows. AS always, well worth the $$. Cant wait to let the CD changer play these all winter long

ramonesfreak 10-21-2021 10:11 AM

Ron Tutt died a couple days ago...one of Jerry's drummers. Saw Ron play with Neil Diamond couple years ago. Great drummer

I got the box set this week as well. Listening to it as I WFH.

ramonesfreak 10-21-2021 02:38 PM

i didn’t get far into it today but i think i’m liking it a bit more than the PNW box. but really anything from 71 to 74 makes me very happy….the little extras were cool especially the book

That's the perfect era for the band. Too bad I was just a sprout in 1972.

BTW, there's just not enough concerts anymore where a stark naked longhaired guy stands on a post behind the stage watching the band. A simpler time. (That guy has regrets. It's easy to find an interview with him. I don't think I'd have regrets.)

The Deadcast podcasts regarding Europe 72 are good (10 part series). Listened to epi 1 yesterday and listening to epi 2 now.

I was all excited when they told me that my new Honda Civic SI had LSD.

It should really help in the winter. :)

stevej37 04-21-2022 01:10 PM

^^^ I thought they meant blotter acid. Found out they meant limited-slip differential
Oh well.
