Let's drop acid!
At Ken Kesey's place.
I visited his old house in La Honda today for a little civil engineering job on the bridge that crosses the creek to get there. It was pretty cool for this long-time Dead Head to stand in the room (pictured) where it all went down with the Dead, the Merry Pranksters, and the acid tests. Say what you will about it, it's part of our history. I grew up nearby and always knew about the house but never went inside until today. In fact, I used to play football with the Pranksters and the Hell's Angels when I was a little kid back in the 60s. We'd be playing in a parking lot across from Alice's Restaurant, and they'd pile out of their day-glow bus, "Further" and join in the game. They loved hanging out with us kids, since they were like kids themselves. We thought they were weird. The old piano is still there, on the left, decorated by the Pranksters. Pigpen must have played it. ![]()

If that piano could talk.
No telling who all has favored the room with a melody. Thanks, Charlie!

i’ve posted a number of dead related threads here so i know there are fans here. the dead are #1 for me. always have been since i was in 7th grade.
we should have a thread here for deadheads to discuss whatever. for example, i just saw dead & co, i just finished the latest episode of Deadcast and 20 minute ago i ordered the new st. louis box set. point is, there’s always something new, or old, to discuss about the dead but i never did because wasn’t sure just how deep the fans here are |

I saw Ratdog at The Greek Theater in LA and stood in the beer line talking to Bill Walton.

Of course. I actually spend far more time reading the reviews and sometimes very interesting stories about the shows than I do listening to the shows- only because my live Dead recording library is very large

I remember when archive.org was launched, though I've never downloaded from there. Visited a couple of years ago and didn't recognize the place

hippie buddy hung out at John Law's "the Castle" in L A. in the 1960's. lotta debauchery. buddy met his wife-to-be at the New Buffalo commune, Taos N M. Peppermint Patty was her name. she was formerly married to Barry McGuire. he was also a "subject" of O'Leary's LSD experiments. lotta debauchery. and - his dad was Jack Elam. Like a lot of folks here I have been a fan since my younger days as well. Both my folks and a friends used to take us to shows prior to us having our drivers licenses.
Great story! I too have a huge collection of live music from them and Phish. |

I certainly like a lot of Dead music, but I'm not able to call myself a Deadhead.
I'm more 'Laurel Canyon' than 'Haight-Ashbury' but there's definitely some overlap there...

Aren't we all 'Laurel Canyon'?
