It's like a ride at the county fair.

Shatner earned this ride. He was the face of a genre that inspired people like Bezos to do this sort of thing.

I have no doubt that if Paul Allen were alive, he'd have sent Shatner up too.

Too far from a bathroom.

It is free advertising. A good marketing ploy.

Yeah. Must not be to traumatic a way to travel, if a fat old guy like that can take it

Have you read "Requiem", by Heinlein?

This is the rocket carnival ride.

I think Virgin's rocket plane could be scaled up to provide semi-ballistic service, NY to LA in less than 60 minutes. Anywhere on the planet in 90 minutes...

He should be wearing the Enterprise logo. This is great. I heard Bezos comped Shatners ticket.

Agree that Shatner was deserving of the ride and that Cp. Kirk / Star Trek was an inspiration for many of us young uns at the time, but........

Isn't the cost (value) per seat for the flight something like $28 million each? That's gonna be a severe tax bill for Shatner. Hopefully Bezos is covering that as well.

It is this sort of thing that makes me believe we will eventually achieve interstellar travel. 100 years ago we were traveling the globe by boat. In the last century we've gone from the simplest form of air travel to "anywhere on the planet in 90 minutes."

Sitting here today, we have no idea what will be possible 100 years from now. Our best guesses today might pale in comparison to what will become reality.

I just hope the Great Filter is behind us....not that it will matter to me personally. :D

If I had to guess, I'd say that rather than being listed as a gift, it is probably being written off as "advertising/marketing"

I would've died if he started yelling "there's a man on the wing of the plane"!!!!

^^^ He has quite a history doesn't he?

Another Canadian to be proud of.

I was thinking this morning. Still thinking it now. What a life well lived. To pull off a rocket flight at 90. Really puts a genuine smile on my face. Icing on the cake!:)

Crowbob 10-13-2021 03:58 PM

I would probably be a blubbering fool just like Shatner was after a flight like that.

At 90 ... I won't even need a space flight :D

Steve Carlton 10-13-2021 04:27 PM

Priceline is selling rides on Blue Horizon now for $199,999. Shatner got comped.

stevej37 10-13-2021 04:41 PM

^^^ Is Penny going?
I might have to save up some cash.

Steve Carlton 10-13-2021 04:44 PM

She comped me. She seems to want me. Dunno why...
