Shatner in sorta space...kinda sad really
Something sad about Shatner going to kinda sorta space in a penis shaped version of those water pressure powered rockets we played with as little kids.
|
I think it is great.
It is off hold. 44 minutes to go. Should go off at about 9:30 central. |
He should be wearing the Enterprise logo. This is great. I heard Bezos comped Shatners ticket.
|
MAn I just don't get the hate. I think it's awesome, and a great advert for consumer space travel.

90 years old. Good for him!

I think it's awesome that Shatner gets a ride.
Met the man 20 years ago and I thought he was old and frail at the time. In retrospect may have just been fatigue from travel. That he is still kickin enough to do this at 90 is spectacular. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lul-Y8vSr0I?start=51" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
If any civilian deserves to bounce up to space for a thrill, I think Shatner does.
|
Cap'n Kirk ... at 90? That is freakin' awesome :)

Many great memories thanks to William Shatner!

Freakin' cool! I hope he enjoys the heck out of the trip.
|
The tech is amazing. They're in there with no helmets or pressure suits.
|
Watching it live on the interweb.
|
I'm watching it on You-Tube and the "suggested" videos show up...

On hold again at 15:00.

This hold must feel like torture to them. They don't have the luxury of peeing into a spacesuit diaper. Or maybe they do IDK.
|
Countdown resumes.
|
Good advertising opportunity for Shatner's BPH meds.
|
I'd be more impressed if he had sex in space.
Or on earth. |

3 minutes in space...Ha! |
I guess my thought was the guy deserves a legit space mission with some sort of research to be performed. Perhaps it's not possible at his age but would be much, much cooler.
|
Gantry retract. Gettin' real now. I'm wishing there was a live cabin feed during liftoff.
|
Warp speed, Scotty!
|
is he gonna sing? hope not.

For those interested in this sort of thing, as I am, there is pretty good documentary on Netflix about the first multi-day mission into space with an all civilian crew (Space X). I almost didn't watch at first because I thought it was going to be centered around Elon Musk, but he's hardly featured at all. Instead, it provides a real in-depth look at the preparations and technology required to go into space. I was particularly impressed (and surprised) at just how young (and obviously brilliant) the entire support team was! When I was their age I was barely a functioning adult. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

IMHO the soft landing of the booster is most remarkable.
West Texas sure is dusty. |

Overall great to see someone who means so much to fans of sci fi get to do this, just wish it could've been more. Will say the broadcast commentary was a little creepy. Not sure why Fox people couldn't be allowed to do it. |
I wonder why those guys were tugging on the chute lines like that.
