Crowbob,
I listened to a piece the other day interviewing two guys who were invited to the recording of Hey Jude. They said they were there for hours and there were about a dozen takes. One guy said he couldn't stand listening to the song from that day to this. Best Les |

I like the beatles but I only really liked the 3rd ep. Overall the series was at least 50% too long. You could have gotten the same "personal" with a big cut and better editing... But then again, it's made by the guy who turned "the Hobbit" into 3 movies, so par for the course really... Watching Let it be and Get back get created was cool... Yoko was surprisingly not annoying at all on the film, Harrison came out as the whiny one. McCartney was always billed as second in genius to Lennon, I think he's > Lennon after watching, or maybe Lennon didn't care anymore by then. Some cool moments, lost in hours of rehearsals that don't do much for the story. If bored jump to Ep 3 directly.

I haven't seen the documentary (and have no intention of giving Disney a dime of my money) but I think the Beatles formula was partially based on synergy:
-Lennon/Mccartney worked so well together writing songs. -Although each of the musicians were not dazzling in their ability, they blended well to create a special sound. Look at isolated tracks of Steely Dan. There is a lot of minimalism but the finished product left no holes. Ringo was no Keith Moon, Neil Peart, or Carl Palmer but he put the notes in the right places and gave the songs a solid foundation to stand on. Look at great guitarists like Clapton or B.B. They put pauses in at key times which gave their leads and riffs 'soul'.
