Lots of my friends have had or still have a pickup. I have driven a few over the years, but I have not driven a modern pickup yet.
Many years ago I needed to go pick up a large crate at the freight office. A 4x6x5 crate and my only car was my 914. I borrowed a buddies dualie F250 dual cab, long bed, work truck that had a full pipe rack on top. I felt like I was driving a aircraft carrier. I was really happy to be back in my 914 after that. From what I understand is the modern pickups actually ride OK, and they sure have all the options. But they can cost 60 grand and more. One of my friends is a professional welder. He has a business and needs a real truck. He has a F350, long bed, crew cab and he drives a lot delivering the custom trailers he manufactures for another company. He spent a breathtaking sum on it. |

I enjoy driving my Tundra as much as I did when I bought it new 5 years ago. Driving it can be tiring compared to zipping around in my 996.
Hate the wife's Outback maybe because I traded my BMW 335 for it. lol Hated the Ford Ranger I had before the Tundra even more! |
The one thing that should be required on every truck is a sliding rear window or one that rolls down. What good is a crew cab with a 6.5' bed and no sliding window? And why the hell does Ford put out so many crew cab short bed trucks?

I bought my truck a few years back (a '14 Tacoma) and although I like the commanding driving position and reasonable size I don't like the height of the bed when loading and unloading my motorcycles. I've actually thought about picking up a 60s El Camino or installing a winch as its a hard trying to push a 450lb bike up a pair of ramps. That said, once you get a truck I think you'd miss it if you sold it and didn't buy a substitute product like a trailer.

I DD'd my 2012 F350 diesel for years unless I was on the motorcycle or in my Porsche. The math did not make sense to buy another commuter type car for me, and I have a need for the truck (camper that I tow frequently). Back around March I got a SUV that actually gets worse gas mileage that my truck, but I love it and so now I try and drive the truck a few times a week so it doesn't just sit in my driveway. It has about 110K miles and is just getting broken in, which is good because I'd go broke trying to replace it with a new one. Now I |

I have a 2001 GMC extended cab 4x4 diesel dually , I consider it a real truck . Manual windows and mirrors , simple cloth interior with a mechanical shifted transfer case vs electronic . Unless I put 2,000 lbs of something in the bed she rides stiff . I love driving it 😁
The physical size can be an issue , with an 8' bed it turns like the Queen Mary. I never go through drive thru's it's not worth trying . But when you need a truck you need a truck . Sure it's not a Porsche but that's why I have the Porsche 😊 . They can co-exist . |

O.K. you got me. I get a big **** eating grin every time I drive my dually . I am keeping that one forever. That also , used to be primarily , our road tripping/vacation truck . Super comfy, haul anything you want in total safety all the while returning 17-19 mpg.
I think I will most likely end up dumping the other trucks . I thought the dually would be super useful, but, its size got to be a burden driving in and out of the city to the rentals. Some of the streets are really tight, so I would have to park 50 yards down the road, then wheel my tools to the house . I got a shorter hd truck for city duties , and ended up daily driving that one for the last 6 years . I have loved all the duallies that I have owned . |
Hate to admit it but i'm currently pricing a new F250 with the 7.3. The new Tundra doesn't appeal to me so it's either find a leftover '21 or buy the only truck i can find that doesn't have 'auto start/stop' or turbos. AND it's a port injected motor so none of that DI hassle. AND no cylinder shutoff!
