Taycan outsells the 911
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/porsche-taycan-outsells-iconic-911-sports-car-first-time
For the first time, the all-electric Porsche Taycan outsold the high-performance 911 sports car, underscoring the German automaker's shift towards battery electric vehicles. Porsche's sales figures on Friday show Taycan, a competitor to Tesla's Model S, surpassed deliveries of the 911 sports car for the first three quarters of the year by several hundred. The results were 28,640 Taycans in the January-to-September period versus 27,972 for the 911. Taycan is Porsche's first electric car and was introduced in late 2019. The 911 series was first debuted in 1964 and has been one of the German automaker's best-selling and most iconic sports cars over the last half-century.

Interesting. I wonder how much of this is because most dealers don’t have 911‘s? Our dealership here in Kansas City has no new 911‘s and if you are a current customer and place an order today for a 911 it’s a two year wait versus walking in off the street and ordering a new 911 and it being a three-year wait. They do have plenty of Taycans, some Cayenne’s and a few Macan’s.

A brand new car that has cool toys will usually sell well in the first year with the folks who want to have something new to brag about at the car show, country club, social events or car club. Lets see if year two is as strong (especially if 911 production gets back to normal).

The amazing thing is Porsche only expected to sell 20,000 in this year. They have needed to restart production to keep up.
911 hasn't been their top seller for years IIRC. I really think this is just showing the tipping point for EVs.

Sedans will almost always sell in higher numbers than sports cars so it doesn't surprise me.
What does surprise me is that the 911 outsells the Boxster and Cayman. Usually a lower priced car outsells a same type higher priced car from the same company.

Given what I’ve seen and heard about the Tesla fit and finish, if I were in the market for a luxury EV, I’d go with Porsche’s offering over the Tesla.

I have seen both the Tesla and Taycan side by side. Taycan is the easy winner for fit, finish, and styling.

Our local dealer has a "motors in the morning" event at the dealership with free coffee and donuts and lots of guys showed up. They have three 911 GT3RS there, one 2021 911 Turbo S and they just sold a 911 R. All of those are "pre owned" and their inventory of new cars is just three or four cars, and they are waiting on more new cars to arrive. They could sell cars if they could get them in. I would guess Porsche is pushing the Taycan model to the front of the production line to get the chips needed to make the car.

I have a working relationship with a large Ford dealer that does a lot of commercial business. Normally they'd have around 100 vehicles on their lot - currently, they have zero trucks and four vans that aren't spoken for. It's tough.

Our local Porsche dealership is on a long strip of land with dozens of dealerships of many makes one after the other, and on two side of the road in places. When I went to the Porsche dealer, I drove past all the lots as they are on the far end of a dead end road.
The lots were at most 1/2 full. It was evident that they were all parking vehicles on ever other space just to make the lots look less empty. All the makes seem to be at a very low inventory level.

Doesn't every Porsche aside from the 718 twins outsell the 911? Pretty sure the Macan and Cayenne do, panamera also probably... As others have said there are no 992s for sale, heck the dealer cold called the other day to ask if I wanted to sell my 991 as they are out of used cars also !
