Guards Red:
Never looked so good, IMO. When I sold Porsches at the dealer in the ‘80s, it was one of my least favorite colors. It was common, obvious and boring, IMO. A cliche’.
I’ve come around and a lot of it has to do with the sea of white/black/grey that is every modern freeway and parking lot. Plus, it just looks great on the new cars. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634772345.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634772345.jpg |
I remember being told it was too common and got overplayed. But I still like it to this day. I've had several red cars- I like them...

For a long time I thought Guards Red was just so common.
In the last few years my opinion has really changed and I love 'em (really just the '80s Carreras). Last weekend I saw a Guards Red Carrera Targa - '80s vintage - driving through Frazier, CO and I wanted to follow it (but didn't). |
Driving back from Az last week I saw a new 911 in what looked like Marina Blue.
Looked real nice! |
I never thought I'd own a Red Porsche - for the same reasons mentioned in the OP.
Then this one came along and I couldn't be happier. Not "Guards Red" but still Red...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634777368.JPG |
I guess it is a tolerable color on these old clunkers (even Targas):

I've always thought that shade of red was very cool, especially with black trim.

I liked em' as a kid and still like em' now. An older pic but still looks the same with little difference in mileage due to lack of use. 500-800 miles a year if I am lucky.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634786502.JPG

Guards red Has always been one of my favorite colors.
I saw a new red Mustang a few days ago, and that red really popped out. |
My first 911 was Guards red and when I sold it, it was the first time I made money on a car! (1993)
I'd love a brick red 356 someday :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634788077.jpg |
While I can appreciate the beauty of a gaurds red Porsche, I have never owned a red car.

I’m good with GR. |
My XKE is Guards Red - it was restored in the 80's and as you know, that was the hot color back then.

as others have posted , common and boring in the 80s- I still love the color..... and the car |
IMO there is NOTHING better looking than a guards red 911. Love them when I was a kid. Wanted to switch the color of my GP white cab but my brother talked me out of it.
|
There is another nice red on 911s. It's sort of an orange looking red. It was on a cute little Sporto 1971 car I tried to buy.

|
Some would say Indischrot is the same color......

The last thing I was trying to do is start a boring thread where everyone posts pictures of their '80s Porsches in Guards Red. My mistake, I guess. :(
The 904 video is great, though. |
But it's not a boring thread.
|
It's a red thread.

My 1976 Triumph TR6 was Pimento Red. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2344a4fbcf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d67634bf69.jpg

Guards red was my 3rd choice when shopping for a 911. It's too much of a "hey look at me color" and I'm more of a back of the classroom kind of person. Guess what I wound up with lol.
I will say it's the brightest thing on the road on a slightly overcast day, the color pops among everything else on the road. I did get a good car though with some interesting options so I'm not complaining.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634932858.jpg |
