The customer states.....

Fred, I don't know how you deal with some customers.

This is a series of mechanics with a repair ticket. The customer says there is a problem and here is what they found.

And these people are driving on the road with the rest of us!

I have to say, I had a front disc like in the picture before you start. I was out wheeling and dropped the wheel off a rock. When the disc broke it made a heck of a racket when I used the brakes.

Yep. I used to work at a retail auto parts store. I've seen some of that stuff first hand.

Just last week, my wife and I were going back to my El Camino, parked at the far end of the parking lot as usual. There was a chick with the hood of her car up, and she was wiggling the battery cables.

She said it has been acting up for awhile. I wiggled on the positive cable and it was loose, as was the ground. The battery looked really old. I offered to jump her car. So I got the Elky over there and it fired up right away. It was a Autoxzone battery and I suggest she drive right to Autozone right up the road, and have them test the battery, and replace the cable ends. They need to be TIGHT to charge and start the car. She said she was really busy and will do that someday soon. We left and I suspect she was stranded at the next place she went.

She will find time when she is stranded. As a buddy of mine often says: Not my farm, not my pig.

That was good. The rest was painful to watch but I think I know some of these 'customers'. Some tradespeople are just as stupid with their tools.

A friend of mine had some POS small pickup, Chevy I believe. Drove it for about 18 months with CEL on, one trip from DC to Miami. He was dumbfounded when it gave up the ghost.

He was even more dumbfounded when I told him the mechanic he sold it to had fixed it and was driving it around town with HIS license plate still attached. He is fairly non-confrontational and sort of shrugged it off. His wife was extremely upset.

Made my day. Just got back from DC and was delighted with the video.

I took my LC into the dealer yesterday (they actually know what they are doing - one of the senior tech is a Series 80 guy) for some routine stuff. I am done wrenching on cars...I have enough to do with farm equipment.

They called a few minutes ago and put the senior tech on the phone. He walked me through some recommendations and I thought he was spot on.

With few exceptions, just the most basic of routine maintenance turns those nightmares in the video into, yup, routine maintenance.

When I was in college in the mid 70's I worked summers at a Texaco station/repair garage, run by a crusty old curmudgeon. One of our customers came in with her well abused early 60's beetle, saying it was down on power and needed a tuneup. It was running on 3 cylinders, and a compression test revealed one cylinder with no compression. He knew that I worked on foreign cars, so I was delegated to drop the engine to further investigate. Removal of the fan shroud showed a big hole on top of the case, and a broken valve laying on the cylinders. Seems it ingested a valve and cycled it out the crankcase.

She had a plate below the license plate that said "God is my co-pilot". He came up, looked at the damage, looked at the plate, and said "I wish he were her ****ing mechanic".

Fun times.

Have you gotten around to putting a radiator in your 911S yet?

And how could he/she do that after taking out the old one (with no wrapper)?

Fun to watch...but most (or all) are faked....for YouTube.

I worked at a gas station in high school and one day a guy came in and said his engine sounded funny.
No sheet, I could hear the clatter from 20 feet.

Opened the hood and saw a rag stuffed into the hole where the oil cap was supposed to go.
I said that's no good. He said he just put that rag in there, the rag he had in there before disappeared.

The car had zero oil pressure and I couldn't help but wonder if the engine are the rag.

A guy road into the motorcycle shop I worked at in college. He told the mechanic it wouldn't go over 60 mph. The mechanic took off the seat, opened the air filter housing, reached in and pulled out a bag of weed. The bike owner was thrilled. He said he put it under his seat and thought it fell out.

Anytime " customer states their vehicle will not need anything for state inspection" , it is an automatic fail here.
