What a build - no expense spared. Leather dash is lovely.

If the theory holds that a rising tide floats all boats,
is my cheap car now worth cheap-plus?

Maybe. Either way, that is a really, really nice E28 and I don't think it could be replicated for the money much less the money and aggravations and time.

I was watching that and drooling.

Adding up all the cars I should sell to bid on it. LOL!!

Friday last week, the wife and I were going into downtown Stuart to an Artwalk then we were going to walk to dinner in downtown.

As soon as we roll into downtown, I stop to let a pedestrian use a crosswalk and get rear ended.

The girl that hit us was maybe 20 years old, shaking like a leaf, she was looking to the left to make sure she could go and thought I went, did not realize I stopped for the really poorly placed crosswalk.

She drove into me never hitting the brakes. We exchange info. I spend the weekend shopping for bumper parts, all the parts I need ran $1,100. Then the shipping, our host here will not even ship the bumper, pick up only. ECS and Turner parts too, sadly neither one had all I needed so 2 orders. $400 in shipping!!

Plus some sheet metal damage, going to see if the paintless dent removal guy can do his magic.

As I add this all up, it will top $2K with paint and addressing the dent in the sheet metal. I had the most profitable year last year ever and this year is shaping up to be more of the same. I am going to tell the girl to pick one, pay the dent guy or the paint guy and we will call it even.

This thread is a great idea. Seems more relevant to put these cars together by period, instead of all 5-series E12 to G-whatever.

Not sure what my son was thinking, I honestly thought I'd imparted more practicality in him. He showed me his new old driver that his wife kindly 'allowed' him to buy.
Not sure if it belongs in this thread but thought I'd share here.
He's already modified it with wheel spacers, de-badged it and has an exhaust for it on order. Dealer added the tint for him too.

He let me drive it to see how it goes.
For as big as it is it is a ROCKETSHIP.

Ouch, sorry to see the bumper damage. Hope it gets fixed properly and back on its feet soon.

If that happened to my Euro E24, I'm not sure what I would do as you simply cannot get bumper parts anymore even from Europe...sadly.

I've been working on my US-spec '86 sharknose and did something interesting. I removed the heavy and ugly US bumper supports and made new ones out of aluminum effectively tucking them and giving the car a Euro look. I'm pleased with the result...and I saved about 40-lbs in weight in doing so. It took about three weeks and lots of trial and error before getting it just right.

I've been asked by several owners to put this into production and wish I could but as I'm not a shop and can't crank out widgets, its just going to be a one off for the time being.

More E28s!

We've had 4 e28s in my family: 2 535i's and 2 535is's, so it's great to see these cars gaining appreciation and value.

Here's my current 535is. Had it since 2008: 230,000 miles, engine never opened, everything works, runs and drives perfectly and looks good from 50 feet, but needs paint.

I bought those wheels used years ago and don't remember what they came from. I don't use spacers. Not enough clearance in the rear. The tires are 205/55-16s.

It's official...US dollars are close to worthless. Pretty soon, we will be wiping our ass with them.

Lots of money for a e28, but that is really low miles, doubt there is many with under 50k miles, and great colour, really like that Alpine white. Likely still a better car then what you can pick up new now for $60k. I like the look of the stock rims but those Michelin TRX are a useless setup, I left the original rims with the previous owner.
