Question OT - How do you say Porsche???

I found this on one of the other boards (Mustang) and I couldn't answer the question. Here it is:

"OK, I need it settled. Half of the customers that come in with Porsches say it "Porsh-uh" and half say "Porsh." Which pronunciation is correct? Or is there even one, objective, agreed upon pronunciation?

It's bugging me!! "

Well, I say Porsch-uh if I'm trying to impress the ladies, etc...
However, in most conversations I say porsch, just cause I, like yo mama (haha), doesn't want to sound 'snooty' (good word).
(I think I overuse parynthesis) (did I spell that right?)

i say porsh, but I'm lazy and don't want to add another syllable on at the end. And partially because I don't want to sound snooty (but mostly because I'm lazy)

Mike, that'd be 911 drivers and "consultants" that say porsh-uh all the time. I oft say porsh for the layfolk, but I still get mildly irritated when "car people" say "it". Man, I "got" the same "problem" that "Ilikemy" has, only with"quotation" marks.

Depends on who i'm talking to... if it is a Porsche person, or a bigtime car freak (rice excluded), I say Porsh-ah. If it is just in coversation, ie "Yeah I drive a Porsh, but it wasn't expensive," I usually just say Porsh. Half to sound not-snooty, half to avoid confusion. One time I told a girl that my car was a "porsh-ah," and she was like "never heard of it." Then I said "porsh" and she was like, "oh, so the model is a Porsh Porsh-ah?" And then I slapped my forehead and said, "yeah kinda."

When George Bush was asked what kind of under wear he preferred - boxers or briefs- his reply was .. depends..

depends on the crowd around you. With me- the extra syllable only comes out at PCA and swap meets..

Chris,

with respect, thats wrong.

"Porsche" is the name of a person. It's been explained time and time again how the German pronounciation of it is.

Yes I agree that "porsha" can sound contrived, but its the correct saying.

I never "dumb" down my car, its a porsch"a", thats what the badge says.

If it makes a person happier calling his car a "double cheesburger with mayo and onion rings" thats fine, but it dont make it so.

I suggest people with a problem with what car they got, or embarresed by it should by a car with a shi..t easy pronounciation, like a "nissan" or a "Datsun".

Rice is easy to say in any language

peace

The correct way to say it is as follows

In High German, it is Porsh-eh - second syllable is very soft

In Bayerische or southern German it is Porsh-uh.

tomorrow, we conjugate the verb "Fahren"
