If you can catch a Supercar Sunday gathering up in the valley, it’s worth a drive. Last time I was there, someone rolled up with a RUF yellowbird.

PEC is not in Irvine.
It's in Carson where the 405 and 110 meet.

'are there car events?'

Yes, there are.

SoCalCarCulture - Car Show and Events Calendar

If you're near Van Nuys (which is near nothing worthwhile) check out TRE - it's like an air-cooled 911 festival every day.

We did the open top van tour a few years ago. Pretty cool but scary as poopoo. The 15 pax van literally has the top cut off and it pretty rickety. Then the driver just zips around like driving a 911.

But cool looking at the places.

hollyood fantasy tours next to the pantages theatre?

i may have driven that POS.

varmint 11-10-2021 11:58 AM

and Newcomb's is closed? that's depressing. loved that place.

Yeah, Venice Beach isn't worth your time, unless you enjoy gawking at freaks and weirdos.

The Academy Museum opened recently on Wilshire Blvd. It showcases the history of cinema and everything that revolves around movie making.

A visit to the La Brea Tar Pits is always interesting.

And it's right across the street from the Peterson Automotive Museum.

You can rent some bikes and ride along the beach on a paved bike trail from Santa Monica down to Marina del Rey.

A better bet might be to visit the Hancock Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. This is where many of the A-listers lived before Beverly Hills became the place to be. And unlike Beverly Hills, where many of the celebrity homes are hidden from view behind walls and dense landscaping, the grand old mansions in Hancock Park are easily visible from the street. Just park your car and walk around.

Thanks for all the events. We are going to the LA auto show and the Magic Castle. ACM museum, Peterson, etc. Just got out schedule from sil and it looks pretty jammed. I'll check on the bobs burgers site. Oh well, I guess relaxing in Pasadena is going to be short lived. If you see a tired old guy riding in a Subaru, that's me.

I haven't been to Bob's in Burbank in a long time, but some of the same guys go to the UA theater in La Canada every staurday to show of their hot rods and what not. There are some Japanese classics and European cars there. That's just 10-15 min max from Pasadena.

This^ but not the Hancock park walk tour. I did lots of work in that place some years ago. Its just a place with old oil and Hollywood money along with big homes. Nothing to write home about.

If you are visiting from a land lock state, please enjoy our Pacific Ocean be it Santa Monica or down south in Orange county. Stop, grab a beer and a burger and watch the crowd and the wave for a bit. Hell, I still do that mid week when possible jsut to recharge my battery.

Yeah, closed since Covid. We get up there early and fill the parking lot with old air cools cars, eat a warm breakfast and emjoy the fresh mt air during the colder months.

The Unstock Porsche car show is in Huntington Beach this weekend. Drive down Pacific Coast Highway and enjoy all the cars.

Unstock (first time event, for modified Porsches) is Sunday at Gunther Werks in Huntington Beach.

The Petersen is also hosting a British car show on Sunday morning, 8-11.

Every Sunday there are also car shows in Malibu (10-12 at Malibu Country Mart--that's a nice place to hang out and see beautiful people), and Woodland Hills (Supercar Sunday is back on post-COVID, at Pierce College, 7-9).

Friday night is Cruise Night at Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake. Mostly American iron, but it's charming and the food's not bad for diner-fare. There's also a Friday morning Porsche breakfast group that runs Angeles Crest up to Newcomb's.

But everyday in LA is a car show.

Porsche Experience is in Carson, just across the fwy from the Goodyear blimp.
Not far from Carson, in San Pedro, is the USS Iowa and the SS Lane Victory. They have self guided tours and actually go on cruises periodically.
The Queen Mary is in Long Beach and, if it is open, they have a really great Art Deco bar at the front of the ship.
You can also see the 81 (or so) container ships anchored offshore waiting for a berth to unload
all the junk from elsewhere in the world.

I gave a friend a lift to a shop in Van Nuys to pick up his 993. I don't remember the name of the place.

I really need to get my 76 back on the road

Have you spent much time in California?

Your sig line says Indiana.

The reason I ask is that I always took friends of mine from the East and Midwest on a desert drive when they came out to visit. I was in San Diego so it was a drive to Anza-Borrego through Julian.

They all told me that that was the highlight of their trip.

Just a thought. From Pasadena you are near some incredible roads and vistas.
