How about "neither"? I'd love to have a stock early 911 that hasn't been all Foose'd up.

is pretty much a first world problem. Hear ya widebody. Maybe the next is just what you say, back to the essence but with some modern touches

Tip o' my hat...other than BTDT on the early 911...

The shape of the Gunther reminds me of- Gunter- ironically, from the movie, Sing.

Gunter, no.

Singer, yes.

Not that it matters to me, as I’m not buying either one.

Answer is real easy, I'd take the new RUF CTR before either

The level of engineering/design in the RUF is a super car step above both a Singer DLS or Gunther

Wow, that checks a lot of boxes for me. If this takes off, you better keep your 993 safe from these guys buying it for the chassis!

Pros:
- Weight
- Rothsport engine
- Re-geared transmission
- Cleaned up engine bay with a/c and p/s moved

Cons:
- Silly headlamps
- Front track width
- If I hear "bespoke" or "analog" one more time ...

Not sure about all these people talking about the engine "block". What is this? A chevy 350?

Here a much better video below, instead of a bloke in Britain driving on a one way country road. Look how the thing lays rubber in the turns. Beautiful. The yellow car is also much better aesthetically with the wing instead of the stupid stubby tail.

I am afraid to guess how much this costs.

Sure is correct. Maybe we should add the new CTR into the collection here. That one is forced induction though, which would not be my preference.

Edit, the Ruf is about 800k and the Guntherwerks about 600 while Singer is what? 450?

If nothing else, I'd think the Ruf is a better investment - made in Germany and with a much longer history. Who knows where Singer etc. will be 10 years from now.

Singer, for the name alone.
Who names his company Gunther??
It’s up there with Gumpert.

In real life, I would have to win the lottery to own either one.

This. A RUF is the real option for lottery winners or the very rich.

In the end, I really love driving my slow 200 HP 100% analog no power steering no ABS, no traction control, just me driving it, 85 911.

Before buying any of the three makers I would just get a new 911 GT2 custom built to my specs, and have it serviced by the local dealership. I have no idea where I would get a Gunther, Singer or RUF serviced.

They even have Singers here in NZ. Singer just get on the phone or the interweb and say to the local Porsche tech's "OK boys, put yer beers down and listen, This is what I want you to do." The arrangement seems to work out fine.

I drove my 993 today and thought about this Guntherthing some more. I sure would love to hear how they came up with the name? Is it supposed to be funny and Dieter was taken?

If I had the money, I'd rather build my own warmed over 993. It won't be "bespoke" but probably 90% of the fun of the Gunthermobile. Much of the drivetrain is not really special and can be reproduced with the help of Rothsport, Jerry Woods and others in the us. Same with the gearbox. Then just lighten the chassis by removing sound insulation and interior bits. If you want to get fancy, go Gt2 body. You won't have all the weight savings, but with some DIY, you can get pretty far with 100k + a 993. You would miss the very low weight and the fancy wide track and suspension. But that track width front would worry me anyway, it is too far a departure from how a 993 should feel on the road and track.

Anyway, these are my musings. You can tell, it wasn't a very far drive. I did promise myself to go drive the 993 more. I should get some nice bucket seats for it, bespoke ones.

Not a fan of the Gunther styling at all. I am sure the engineering is good, as well as the fit and finish but the car looks like they tried to hard to do something different and it didn't turn out. Saw one of the coupes in person a couple years ago, no thanks. The "speedster" styling is not great either...

Cheers
