Figured out how to store TWO kayaks in my garage.

I got a new kayak. The real pain was figuring out how to store stuff. I kept it simple. I elongated a saw-horse and made kayak bunk beds. Problem solved.
Most important: wife is happy.

Jack would have them stored in a cubby up in the ceiling. . With LED lighting.

I did sort of the same thing. I store my fishing kayak on 2 plastic/foldable saw horses. I then mounted 3 sets of 2x4s on the wall at 18" intervals so I could store 3 inflatable paddle boards above my Kayak. There is still enough room under my kayak for two totes of gear. On the wall next to them I mounted a metal paddle hanger, but had to thread some rubber hose onto the protruding prongs to make the paddles stay in place.

I’ve seen them hung from the ceiling. But that’s pretty extreme.

yea. i might sell the old one. but my wife said, she wanted to catch a largemouth bass just once in her life. so i imagine springtime at Clearlake would be her best odds.

i'll keep it at least until then. i didnt want to invest a lot of time and $ into such a temporary issue. i had immediate Buyers Remorse when i saw how much space a second kayak ate up. now i feel better.

We did this as we have no room on the floor in either garage for the two kayaks and a canoe.

And you'd hit a button and the cubby would come down out of the ceiling.

Cool, so that's your next step. Maybe install a tube powered by air like the tubes in bank drive thrus. Stick the kayak in the tube and it gets sucked away.

Come on, Dude! You're an engineer. You can do this!

Oh, wait, you're a manager now, not technical.

(that's how we tease guys in IT that go from grunt to manager). "You used to be technical and know stuff. Now you're just a manager."

Another option.

Our two kayaks are currently outside against the woodshed. Not sure if they'll fit in the garage.

But...the canoe fits nicely on a rack in the garage - one of three vehicles in this photo:

Dad used to store an aluminum Grumman flat back canoe in the rafters of our garage.

I have two of these in my garage. Don't remember where I got them - Costco online maybe. I've used them for my kayak (before I sold it) and my mountain bike. They work pretty well, don't take up a lot of room, are easy to put up, & get things off the floor.

This is the setup I went with for storing a rigid inflatable boat, worked great and clears up floor space.

Not too expensive either: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EUL2DO
