that's a TON of space. Do you have any constraints for how wide or how deep it can be?
How many cars/vehicles do you want/need space for? I'm not recommending anything, but you could do 25x34 or 28'4"x30 I'm thinking that it would be nice to have plenty of space for 2 cars side by side without having to worry about hitting walls or other cars, and having space in front and/or behind the car would be nice too, but it kind of depends on some of the things that I asked about above.

I have a 20x20 garage, and it is far too tight to walk around the cars. I would make the depth at 24', and the width at 35', have two 8' garage doors in front of the parking bays, and another 36" entry man door 3' from the other end of the building (all facing the same way). There would be 7' between the 2nd garage door, and the man door.

Yeah, go taller so you can have a mezzanine for rest/storage/mancave.

I built mine to have 10' clear to the ceiling framing. Really make it feel larger than it is. Extra height allows for storage above the wall mounted cabinets. Good luck

Go cruise the Garage Journal forum. There are lots of examples of just what you are asking about here.

I wouldn’t build it that big. The bigger it is the more it costs to fill up with stuff I don’t need.

That's it for the restrictions? No setback limits? No geographic concerns? You can make it 4 cars wide? Or you can lay it out 2 wide and 2 tandem?

I'm not in construction but here is a concept.
Concrete pad 35x30, roof foot print the same 35x30. Include an open 10x20 car port under the roof. Later it would be easy to enclose the car port. Move the garage door on the 10x10 side to the front and put up a 20 foot exterior wall. I'd get the widest garage doors possible even if it means you have to use a few vertical steel beams beside the garage doors to replace wood shear walls. Minimum 8 foot high garage doors. Roll up doors would not interfere with your lift. How tall a door would you need on the 10x30 side to park an RV? Use 2x6 for the 10 foot high stud walls and build the loft floor with 2x10s doubled up. Rafters for the roof would give you more clearance for the lift and for storage in a loft. ![]() |

Go with big garage doors , both height and width . Great for larger vehicles and great for ventilation . My ceiling height is just under 12' and no issues with my full height 2 post lift . If you're going to have an air compressor plan ahead for concrete pad outside of main structure . Best thing I did on mine you barely hear the compressor running .
If you are thinking HVAC consider a mini split . My 2 ton does a fantastic job heating and cooling my 24x26 man cave garage and is very economical to run . I would do 2x6 walls and R19 insulation . Load the attic up with appropriate insulation for your area . Install windows and storm/screen door on entry door for additional air flow . Consider metal roofing panels for your ceiling . I used white and it looks great and reflects light very well . LED lighting all over the place , very bright and cheap to run. Have fun planning and building . |

I went 36' deep and another 2' would have been nice, only for fitting my 20' truck in with a car in front, it works well with two cars. Plan on 12'+ ceiling if going with a lift, or at lest bumped up in that area. If planing on two post lift 6" thick reinforced concrete below it (check on what the lift co recommends) four post lift do not need as thick.

While you are in the planning stage... It would be nice to have an overhead beam (gantry) to hang a moveable hoist off. The sort of thing you can lift concrete mixers etc of the back of trucks and trailers with.

By my math your options are either 3 cars wide x 1 deep or 2 wide x 2 deep. You’ll want plenty of counter and shelf space plus enough height for a lift you can stand under. Where the lift isn’t you could add overhead storage.
I added to the back of my 2 car garage so it’s 22’ wide x 43’ deep which allows for counter/shelf space along one 43’ wall plus storage on the back wall. My main regret is not going high enough for a lift I could stand under. A shop sink is a must and a back door for going out to a tree.

Also if you are planning to heat/cool the garage go with insulated garage doors they make a difference . Also wall mounted door openers are very nice .
