Creeper looking at you while in a restaurant, etc

While we were at dinner tonight with our friends, I was seated across from my wife. Every time I looked past Ms Rocket, a guy was looking at me. It was weird.

No idea who the guy was. We had a lot of fun thinking of gestures and facial expressions I could make towards the guy. Like blowing a kiss, winking, licking my lips, etc.

When we left, my friends said he was looking at me as we left.

Anyone experience this? Was it one of those things where two people make eye contact and subconsciously wonder why they’re looking at me?

I tried to get a picture of him but only got a good picture of Ms Rocket and friend.

You looked like someone he knew but had not seen in a really really long time and he was trying to figure out if you were that person or not.

Or you had a massive booger in your nose and he was puzzled why none of your mates had said anything yet.

Do what you did back in HS. Go up and tell him, "what the fook are you looking at" and invite him outside and settle it there.

It has never happened to us but an older lady, like grandma, kept looking at us when my kids were about 2 and 4 after a long day at Legoland finally was able to get dinner at a local restaurant. My kids were very well behave in restaurants. She came over and complemented us on how we trained our kids to be so nice in a quiet restaurant.

He may have been jealous and just wanted to say "I'll swap you two blondes for your brunetts."

Haha!

The funny thing is, the girl to the far right, looked like our daughter.

Baz 11-27-2021 06:42 PM

Agree with Scott - probably thought he knew you from somewhere.

aap1966 11-27-2021 07:16 PM

I have a good friend with prosopagnosia (face blindness). Intelligent guy, holds down a very well paying, technically demanding job; struggles to recognise faces sometimes even of the people he knows well. If he is confronted with two people who look vaguely similar, he's lost. Hides it well most of the time and is quite ashamed of it. Concentrates on clothing, body shape, hairstyles, voices to recognise people.....
Anyway, maybe the guy wasn't a creeper. Maybe he was thinking "Do I know that guy and will he think I'm a jerk if I don't say hello?"

99% this was it.

Could be.

At one point, I saw him talking to the person next to him and next thing I knew, several of the people at the table were looking at our table.

He’s probably at home right now talking to his wife, saying did you see that creeper! 😂

sc_rufctr 11-27-2021 08:45 PM

This exact same scenario has happened to me. It was in a crowded Chinese restaurant.
I confronted the guy by looking him in the eye and saying in a clear voice "Is there something wrong?" and he never looked at me again.

Some people play games & there's no way to know what this guy was thinking.
- I wouldn't take it personally.

t.

This has happened to me multiple times.

Bill Douglas 11-27-2021 10:34 PM

There was a large group of friends of friends at a pub. a guy kept looking at me and said I know you from somewhere... After a quick discussion he said "Let's go right back, where are you from originally?" It turned out we knew each other when we were about five years old. Next door neighbours.

Heel n Toe 11-27-2021 11:31 PM

He was looking at the attractive woman just past you at the next table.

Or he may have been looking at the chalkboard with the list of desserts that was just above your head, trying to decide what he wanted.

Just kidding... I stole that last one from a movie or TV show.

A tv on the wall behind you?

A930Rocket 11-28-2021 03:50 AM

No tv’s or menu’s behind me.

His head was just over Ms Rockets right shoulder, so any time I looked at her, he probably thought I was looking at him. Several times, I could see him looking at me, just by me looking at Ms Rocket.

LEAKYSEALS951 11-28-2021 04:24 AM

Cool (or ah.. crap)- The lady in the back far left wearing the glasses /dark hair/ in red/ with her hand near her face-

Looks just like the person who cuts my hair. She is a patient of mine, and she is remarkable in that she cares for a quadriplegic in much of her free time.

I swear that's her. I think. But what's she doing in a different state?

I'd better go figure it out because if I don't say something I'm going to hear about it next week!
:)

had I been there, I would have used the "ask the audience" feature from others at my table.

David 11-28-2021 05:04 AM

Do you look like someone famous?

I have a friend who looks like Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. It’s funny being in public with him. People sneak pictures from across the room or tell him how much they loved such and such song or album.

carambola 11-28-2021 07:51 AM

They have a vague Cop feel to them, have you been arrested lately?

ZOO 11-28-2021 08:18 AM

My dad looks an awful lot like Jonathan Banks . . . and this happens to him, too. Just sign the autograph if they ask. You'll make their day.

buddy was the spitting image of Rod Stewart. and it was the 1980's.
literally - women would chase him down the street, thru the airport etc, etc.
he counted 'em (the "encounters") - i'm not gonna bother with the number - no one would believe it, anyways.

john70t 11-28-2021 03:30 PM

if only buddy had a full-time manager around..
it would be like dressing nice and walking the puppy on a Saturday morning.

porsche930dude 11-28-2021 03:47 PM

one reason i dont like going to resturants. Sometimes your eyes just go someplace alot and you dont even realise it. After a while you realise you were staring at the guy alot and now he is looking at you suspiciously.

R K T 11-28-2021 04:20 PM

Even worse.....
A guy was staring at me in a restaurant and got up and came over and said "hey Rob how are you man? How's JoAnne? Still living in _____? I answered his questions but,
I had no freakin idea who this guy was and didn't ask him who he was!
He said great seeing you brother, take care!

Nickshu 11-28-2021 04:54 PM

Send him a round of shots. Maybe a blowjob or a motorboat?

Gogar 11-28-2021 05:18 PM

How's you know he was looking at you unless you were looking at him? :)

Many years ago, I resembled a young Nick Nolte. No resemblance now.

He’s better looking than me now!

This happens to me quite a bit. I was the manager in a photo shop in our small town so many of the locals came in. When this happens and my wife is around, she knows I can't remember peoples names, so we have a fix. She right away says, Hi, I'm Rosalie, Juan's wife, and you are? Works great! Saves me many embarrassing moments.

recycled sixtie 11-29-2021 06:28 AM

Maybe the guy looking at you found you attractive? You could have switched seats with your partner if you found yourself uncomfortable? Or just don't look at him.

I too worked at a professional photolab for 25+ years. Lots of people knew me, but my brain just does not remember someone that does not stand out for a reason. If I had no idea who they were, just stand up, act happy to see them, shake their hand vigorously, and my response was usually "Hey, easy money, how are you?" No one was ever mad to be called easy money, and I was not embarrassed to admit I had no clue as to their name.

There was one guy that I kept seeing in town at various businesses, and we would exchange glances, and even nod. After the 5th encounter, I went over and asked him if I was stalking him or if he was stalking me. He laughed, introduced himself and now when we see each other I call him by name, as his name is Jack. I think it is somehow funny to yell "Hijack" in a crowd and long as we are not at the airport.

masraum 11-29-2021 06:54 AM

My guess is that this guy went home and got on his favorite forum to post "I was at a restaurant tonight, and every time I looked up some creepy dude at the next table was staring at me."

He probably looked at you more and more to catch you looking at him. Stop being so creepy and staring at random people!

What was behind you? Maybe he was looking at the clock or something behind you.

stomachmonkey 11-29-2021 08:15 AM

Was in A Basin, just finished a day of skiing.

Doing the apre ski thing in the parking lot and two young guys keep staring at me and whispering.

Climb into van to change, hop out with a beer in hand smoking a big fat cigar.

One guy starts nudging the other guy "see, see, I told you, he's smoking a cigar and chugging beer, dude, that's Gene Simmons!"

Gene don't drink or smoke and he's like 2 feet taller than me.

Personally I was a bit insulted.

ErVikingo 11-29-2021 08:49 AM

Could be creepy.

I recall having early dinner with my wife and back then young kids (7 and 8). An old gentleman in his late 70's on table across the room kept looking at us making me very uncomfortable.

As he is leaving he approaches the table and said something like "congratulations, you have very polite well mannered kids. May all of you be showered with blessings".

I thought wow I was thinking of getting up and confronting him. We saw him and his (I assume wife) jump into a 911 Turbo Cabrio. We finished our meal, had a nice after dinner drink.

When I asked for the check, the gentleman had paid for our bill. He left a note which we have somewhere at home that said that it reminded them of years gone by when they would go to dinner with their now adult kids.

There are a lot of honest to God nice people out there.
