How Do You Leave PP Forums?

Suppose you want to entirely delete your account and login - how do you do that?

red-beard 12-03-2021 08:08 PM

First, check in at a mental health facility, 'cause you'd have to be crazy to leave here!

I think you can contact a moderator. If they can't help, they can find someone who can.

stomachmonkey 12-03-2021 08:11 PM

Ask the admins to delete you.

KFC911 12-03-2021 08:36 PM

Like most addictions, quitin' is easy enough.... not ever returning is the hard part

....but eventually the success rate reaches 100% :D.

john70t 12-03-2021 08:39 PM

You can check out any time.

Close the cover, unplug the wire, say "'i quit the internet", and go get yer work done.

Just leave.
No need for big drama.
No need to make more work for the mod's because you are too weak to simply stop.

I've quit plenty of times. It's easy.

pwd72s 12-03-2021 09:21 PM

Yep, just log out & quit posting. I doubt anybody will really bring up any of your old posts. Especially after a week or two.

That's how I quit the early 911S registry board years ago. I doubt I've been a topic of conversation there since I left. Ditto R Gruppe.

craigster59 12-03-2021 09:43 PM

Maybe it's my interwebs ignorance, but didn't some threads get screwed up by someone deleting all their posts?

I'd just quit cold turkey and never come back. Just give it up. Pelicano non grata. Hasta la vista baby. Adios muchachos.

Wait, did someone just post something new in the "Random Pics" thread??

This. ^^^^^^^ I imagine if a person is going to quit something like this, it would be because he/she just lost interest. That kind of thing happens. I know there have been some dramatic exits based on the individual personalities of the persons, but I guess a normal exit would be the result of loss of interest - excluding death which sadly may be knocking on some doors around here considering some posts in the thread about age.

rusnak 12-04-2021 01:59 AM

I think you can delete your login by getting banned. But he did not ask about the past posts. Am I missing something here?

red-beard 12-04-2021 05:50 AM

Nope. Banning does not delete posts. Redufo and Fastpat posts are still there.

Geronimo '74 12-04-2021 06:07 AM

You can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave.

ckelly78z 12-04-2021 06:35 AM

Not strong enough to stay away...just say no !

This. He spent a lot of time searching for all his posts, and managed to delete them or the mods did I have no idea. The old random pics threads and many others were just FUBAR and new threads had to be started to replace them.

One guy had possible legal problems and was trying to vanish his on-line life. I suspect that it completely impossible. Once is is posted on the internet, it is there forever. It may take more digging, but the way back machine has complete copies of old web sites.

Best practice, log off, delete your username & password on your list of passwords and never return.

island911 12-04-2021 10:01 AM

I'm fairly sure that he did not delete. - the delete feature is available only a few months back.

I think that he compelled Pelican to delete. - a hot mess for sure.

How Do You Leave PP Forums?

If you do...can I please have your post count to add to mine?
I'm looking to start making the big bucks. :)

Rusty Heap 12-04-2021 10:31 AM

The first step of addiction, is admiting you have a problem.

turn9 12-04-2021 10:45 AM

Get the anti—PP vaccine. You may need a booster every now and then

Many years ago one could indeed delete all of their posts .... and somebody did... thousands of them. A simple request to Wayne and a database command ... poof gone! I think mebbe all the deletes were "undone" later too .... if I remember the poster correctly. Nothing is ever "really deleted" from most databases .... or the Internet fwiw.

Leaving? Don't take Dylan Thomas' advice.

Zeke 12-04-2021 12:14 PM

During my time as a moderator I got in between 2 registered members and tried to reason with both. For the record I am not talking about Dean and Peter. Anyway, I got some promises from the worse of the two and he reneged. I made life tough for him at that point by presenting a case to the admin.

The poster's account was completely deleted and he had the balls to come back as a 'guest' under the same name. I think he regained membership status not long after. It was time for me to quit that job. And good thing too because there are 50 people here that would be joining Dean and Peter if I had anything to do with it.

Assisted Deletion..I think you can go to jail for that...

Gretch 12-04-2021 03:18 PM

to the OP" the way to "leave" is to go away...........

In a few months no one will even remember who you are and all your posts will be several pages buried in the archives of this site.......

life goes on, and trust me, no one gives a crap about you.

pavulon 12-04-2021 04:05 PM

charming.

LWJ 12-04-2021 07:12 PM

I think the traditional method is to throw a big fit. Make a “you won’t have me to kick around anymore” post. Leave for a while or forever.

I have seen this a few times.

Don’t leave, John.

Or leave, and come back as JetFokkenBlack guy.

I dunno. Maybe you could get sent to the island and find you like it. Setup a hotel for the long stay type clients and frequent flyers.

craigster59 12-05-2021 07:47 AM

There's some that just quit cold turkey after being very active on the forums. I'm sure they lurk, I was surprised to see Joeaksa chime in on the Wayne Krieger thread. Some like OWP, Lubemaster and WD just dropped out without a word, I'm sure they'll chime back in sometime.

LEAKYSEALS951 12-05-2021 08:13 AM

This needs to be signed, notarized, sent certified mail/ signature receipt requested. Copies to be kept on file for 10 years. This simplified version does not address loss of deposit, early withdraw penalties, or physical and emotional harm resulting from forum use.

After a contract is terminated, the parties to the contract do not have any future obligations to each other. However, one or both parties might be liable for breach of the terms of the contract prior to termination. The terms of the contract might also determine what happens after the contract is terminated

As always, check with your liability insurance carrier to determine if your terms of coverage will guarantee you are in compliance. If not, you may be required to purchase an umbrella policy, depending on policy, and state requirements. Questions regarding liability resulting from participation in COVID threads are best addressed by consulting the individual's insurance carrier.

(Clearly, it's easier just to stay)

Joe is phenomenally good guy...haven't heard from him in years.

I talk with Lubes and OWP at least once a month. They have both been great to work with in the real world.

As a matter of fact, I have a meeting with Lube and OWP separately on Monday.

Geneman 12-05-2021 08:23 AM

island911 12-05-2021 09:02 AM

"OWP"? -ah, took me a moment. Glad to hear that the puppy and tribologist are doing well as well.

What would be the reason/motivation to delete an entire account?
That must have been a heck of a discussion you had…

It sure F’ed up a lot of threads.
Who was it? :)

I know three people who started new accounts and had the original deleted because of divorce proceedings.

At least one of them is now deceased...

So sorry to hear that. I assume you can’t share the name of our deceased friend publicly. Can you Blink once if it was OJB, twice if it was someone else?

Joe is alive and well - I see him on FB sometimes. And I agree - he is a great guy.

Deceased: "Ron Meier" changed his name to "Scrappy" - The whole scenario was sordid...unfortunately I know more details than I want...

OJU has not posted for quite a while. But he also changed names, because of a divorce.
