I bought an articulated bed frame and a Sleep Number. That's my recliner. I've had 3 shoulder surgeries. Works perfectly and since it's a bed, no clunky furniture taking up a large footprint.

Bought my Bradington Young recliner around 1993. Been reclining every evening since!

I did replace the recliner mechanism about 3 years ago.

Edit: our 25-year-old son, asked what brand recliner I had, as he was looking for one.

I have a lazy boy couch and 2 chairs in my living roo. Almost never recline them. If I want to lay down, I go to bed.

We bought a Lazy-Boy recliner and couch around 10 years ago. The first night we both passed out within 30 minutes.
The couch is ready for replacement, we'll probably get another one

We have a very similar green leather Thomasville chair, love it, it has really held up well over the years. We have no plans to replace it.

I have a Perfect Chair, Zero Gravity chair and when i came home from the hospital with broken ribs and for months, it seemed like, i lived in that chair, being electric, it made it easier for those moments when i had to get up.
I highly recommend one.

Sadly, my sciatic nerve experience is just the opposite, i just can't sit without pain. The damn thing is killing me.

Check out Dania, and/or stressless if you are looking for something sleeker. I think they are a dealer. I have a vintage stressless chair and it is super comfortable.

IKEA has recliners, and they are surprisingly comfortable, and not big padded fat massive things.

Skip the chair and go straight to the reclining couch.

I had a pair of these, or something just like them, in the library of my last house for 20 years and use them every single day. Super comfortable.

OK - some of these swivel and some don't.

I wonder how important that feature is to have.

Guess it all boils down to personal preference - location of chair in relation to TV - etc.....
